First of all, we are a long ways from winning a baseball national championship this year. Plus, we have a low probability of winning a football championship next year.

Money has to come from somewhere. AD has to be able to convince the boosters to pay up.
Also Jay Johnson was hardly on top of anyone’s list of baseball hires and I’d give him a solid A so far. Woody deserves tons of credit for that hire.

And all we did in WW II was pay more money to train soldiers, build more planes, ships, and rifles... and we lucked up when we won?
Would Woodward have been unlucky had those same coaches lost? Jesus. Hiring coaches and paying them money is the job description.
