Were we picked to win the conference like Auburn football this year with a Heisman favorite at QB? LSU basketball would not even be the biggest flop during this academic year.

If you understood basketball, you would know that won't be much of a flop.
THIS.
I projected we would win 24 games at best. 15 at least. Well, here we basically are.
This lineup, if you look at it closely, is just NOT that bad arse. Could it be? If everyone came back next season, no doubt in my mind...and also impossible.
What this team needs is a Tasmin Mitchell or a Garret Temple.
Too many freshmen. Too many bad defenders. Dale's teams played defense. JJ's do not. That is why I often do not compare the two as most do.

IMHO getting in the tournament is not all that monumental a task. You basically have to be one of the 45-48 best teams in the country once you sift out the lower level automatic qualifiers.
We have the talent to do that with what we have on the roster...Not excepting the too many frosh angle.
Too many to win a national title? Sure. Too many to make the NCAA Tournament? No....if we don't it's an underachievement plain and simple.

Name one other time where the consensus #1 player coming out of high school and that went to college did not make the tournament?
I think Nerlins Noel was the number 1 recruit coming out of high school. Kentucky failed to make the tournament his only year there. He also had a knee injury though, so it's pretty different circumstances.

I agree. Especially when you are playing in one of the weaker conferences. When I looked at the schedule at the beginning of the season I thought this team would win 20 games at least despite their youth and injuries at the beginning of the season. Extremely disappointed at the way this season has transpired.

Not necessarily. Alabama went 12-4 in the SEC regular season in 2011, were the regular season champs, beat Kentucky, beat Georgia TWICE, and were snubbed for the NCAA Tournament. They went to the NIT and finished as the runner-up.
Alabama 2011 was afflicted by the same problem that hounded LSU this year: bad losses and no significant OOC win.

They won the division. Not the conference. Major difference.

CJJ certainly would be done

An expectation of 20 wins was very reasonable with this team. Any expectations otherwise and excused for not getting their IMHO are pure rationalizations, perhaps well-intended but rationalizations nonetheless.
The second half of the Bama game and these last two games on the road have all the appearances of a program in turmoil. Lack of effort and intensity have been rampant.
