Way too small of a chance he doesn't.

I know that's the Rant consensus, but I could see Shep playing in a Percy Harvin type of role. RB, WR, take some snaps at QB, etc.

I'm not going to say he won't be a QB for LSU, but there's a very real chance that he switches positions.
I agree. He said he doesn't want to redshirt so I think unless he comes in and jumps the depth chart to Lee's back-up next year as a true freshman, he plays WR.

Guilbeau is looking more and more like a fool about what he said about the QBs.

What does the future hold for Jordan Jefferson?

The opportunity to make Lee his backup next season.

Once again, very, very small chance he does. He'll be the running QB starting next year more than likely.

So let's assume Lee is the guy from here on out this year. He'll have had a bunch of experience going into next year and he doesn't suck. So then Shepard comes in next year and plays the RP role while Lee is the main guy. You're telling me that he's eventually going to beat out Lee. It's possible because who knows how good or bad Lee will end up being in a couple years. However, I've seen Shepard's JR and SO HS stats and he doesn't look like he can throw (right now at least). I tried finding stats from the current year, but I couldn't find them.

You think this kid would be content playing backup QB? I'd guess that if he couldn't beat out Lee, he'd switch positions. And I wouldn't blame him one bit.

what if the offensive line next year isn't that great...then LEE will not be the quarterback because he isn't mobile enough.

Here's the irony, the question is not "What does the future hold for Jordan Jefferson?" The question is "What does the future hold for Andrew Hatch?" Jefferson will see the field more. He is a better athlete than Hatch. As he gains experience, Hatch will be hard pressed to remain in the rotation. JJ has to make it happen this year though. RS will put a lot of pressure on him next year.

Refernce Pryor at OSU. Same deal.

1. Jefferson can redshirt next year.

2. Jefferson may just pass up Lee next year.

3. Lee will be eligible for the draft after next season. Yes he will be eligible. If his success continues this year and 2009 he has a great year he may go pro.

That's the way I see it too. Hopefully, both Shep and Garett can redshirt next year. That would be best for them and us, assuming Shep sticks to qb. And, I think that will be a serious subject for discussion when he arrives. I think he's going to play pro ball eventually. But, the NFL simply doesn't embrace running quarterbacks. I think he and the coaches will discuss it, and reach a conclusion that will be best for him. And, I do not know what that will be.

Actually I don't know if Shepard will ever be the main guy, maybe late in his career. His best role is suited to running but he can also pass, just not with Lee nor Jefferson. I think we'll be using 2 QBs for a long while to come.

He's been doing well passing this year. He practicing with a top QB developer this summer and his high school put in a more legitimate passing game this year than in any year previously. Here are his stats on the year.

Game 1: 13 for 23, 248 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT; 17 rush, 42 yards

Game 2: 14 for 20, 177 yards, 2 TD; 20 rush, 206 yards, 2 TD

Game 3: 8 for 20, 168 yards, 2 TD; 30 rush, 257 yards, 3 TD

Season: 35 for 63, 583 yards, 56%, 5 TD, 1 INT; 67 rush, 505 yards, 5 TD

It's not really "backup" QB in the classic sense of the word. Yes, Ryan Perrilloux was a "backup QB" last year but he got a lot of playing time (and would of even more-so if he didn't keep messing up off the field). I think if we use Shepard on 10-15 snaps a game next year he'd be more than content with that @ QB. I think he could have a hard time finding time in our WR corps in his first few years here if he were to switch there. His best bet is taking snaps from the center.

I thin kit might be safe to say for now Hatch's career at QB for LSU might of come to pretty much a close barring injury to Lee (this year).

That's very hard to say. but like I said, if Lee continues to play as well as he has been, how can Jefferson beat him out? I think JEfferson is very good and more dynamic than Lee, however, if Lee continues to play well I don't think Miles will mess with that even if Jefferson looks slightly better in practice.

ding. ding. This is unfortunately a huge part of football and can change the whole scenario in one play. Hatch is one play from being the starter again. It'll be the same for every season. Everybody just needs to hold on, work hard and see what happens. When is the last time LSU went a whole year without a QB going down? It's already happened this year.

Rest of the year??

This just in: it's October 2. We have too much football left to give a shite about Jefferon's career future.

Nice. Point being that it happens fairly often...already has this year....and will undoubtably happen again. In recent times Davey, Mauck, JR, Flynn, and now Hatch. It's just impossible to say who should stay and who should go and who needs to red shirt and who will never get an opportunity to play because of injuries.
