JR is the most talented QB we've had, but that means little in terms of leadership or consistency. We don't win national title with JR. He threw the ball at one speed and would have lost the experienced receivers that knew their routes and adjusted to broken plays.

I'm a huge JR fan after saying that. The only thing I've ever had against him was the Cosby sweater he wore on the sidelines at the National Championship game.

LSU fans rarely see leadership though. it's a rumor more than anything

and yes, there are "LSU guys" who cannot have a negative word spoken about

Dude, for a guy with a cannon for an arm, JR has one of the nicest touch passes out there.

I met him after the florida game.

he was shaking hands with his left hand, and I thought something might be wrong then..

really nice guy, kind of goofy.

So basically the KEY to NCs in your opinion is (drum roll please) .....

Average QB play. We won the NC with an average at best SEC QB who seemed to play great in the 4th quarter after being below avg usually in the first 3.

Agreed that fans generally don't see leadership because most of it happens behind the scenes. JR needed less because he worked with the same core group for several years. The main difference between 2006 and 2007 outside of the schedule was the development of the receiving corps.

I don't know many LSU guys who haven't been trashed at one time or another here. I don't have a thing against JR, just think the situations were very different.

I don't have a stake in most of this, but I am glad to see that several have challenged the assertion that JR always threw the ball at one speed. He really had nice touch, too, especially by the end of 2006.

I'm not saying he couldn't or ever didn't throw a ball with touch, but that was his default setting. His arm is sick and his hands so big they used the extra girth ball. His fingers still wrapped around it and made for a nice spiral. Saying that guys with a big arm tend to rely on it in situations that it isn't required.

Pass to Dbowe at Bama is prime example. Buster was a huge posession guy down the stretch on 3rd down.

I didn't read every post, but I see some have said, and I agree, that JR just didn't live up to what some people thought he would so they decided they didn't like him. I like him, and feel he did LSU proud. I have never played college football, but I would guess it would be hard to be a dominant QB, especially in the SEC.
