IMO the grading out of talent available for recruiting by collegiate football programs is a hit and miss proposition - made much more risky by the introduction of $$$$. The temptation to pump up the numbers by athletes is arguably an ever present temptation - and don't tell me that doesn't happen. Some would argue (as I do) that money and the more available always tends to corrupt the system.
Louisiana (especially North Louisiana) always had the reputation of producing huge and talented O/L prospects. Nick Saban certainly agreed with that. We grew our own talent in Louisiana. From what I understand Brian Kelly doesn't exactly have the reputation or the inclination to recruit Louisiana (at least not the O/L prospects). Add to that recruiting pressure from Texas A&M, Texas, and Bama. That's why winning is so crucial. It's all about money now.
A solid talented O/L has made many a mediocre QB and running back stable look like champions. Games are won by huge physical men in the trenches.
IMO therein lies the underlying problem with Brian Kelly's offensive stats.

This line is so easy to figure out until Adams returns.
LT Thompson
LG Mubenga
C Moore
RG Davis
RT Curne
I don't know how much more film we need on Chester to see he just doesn't have SEC talent. I get the idea of CBK wanting to develop Davis, just do it at G. If he can prove he can play there, maybe move him back out to T later.

That same 5 star isnt even all sec and has heavy feet to play LT. So lsu got that right.

DJ Chester is starting at LT vs A&M. Tyree Adams out with ankle injury
OP said LG at 1st, then edited after my post. Still, the coaches obviously think Tyree Adams is the best option at LT. He is currently unavailable, though. As far as Curne, he’s been telling at RT all season, but BK said he would start repping at LT this week. It’s hard for some NFL players to switch sides at tackle. Your footwork is literally the exact opposite. A lot to ask of a true freshman to switch over with like 4 days of practice.
Not to say he not wind up over there at some point. I think after the bye would probably be more realistic, but throwing him out there at the most important position on the OL on the road at Bama would not be ideal. Count me in the group of not understanding why kicking Thompson out to RT or LT doesn’t appear to be an option, though.

Have you watched him play at Tenn? He isn't very and got abused by Bama.

This whole belief that you will have depth in this era has to be gone. No one will pass up starter money to just sit the bench. You have to pay top heavy in the starter game and hope you don’t have a big run on injuries. The drop off is huge for everyone right now.

lol at you thinking Brad Davis actually developed and coached those two up to be studs
Campbell and Jones were two rare talents that were going to be great no matter how bad the coaching was.

Not giving Davis credit for either of them.
Lance Heard was right there with those two, but “he would’ve sucked too” if he stayed at LSU
Apparently he would’ve sucked with our coaching, even if those two didnt

The sad part is we have more 4 and 5 stars on campus than ever before and this may be the weakest OL in school history! To add to the misery, we also have the highest paid OL coach in school history and LSU will finish dead last in the SEC in rushing for the second straight year and the offense is also averaging 100 yards less on offense!
Davis and his enormous salary has to go!

I don't disagree however, Curne doesn't know the plays. Thats not on the Coaches. The Coaches need to help but learning the playbook and the duties on each play is on the player to learn.
Now development along the offensive line has been very bad for the most part but Echols has been a bright spot in the run game. Hes probably the best run blocker we got.

Kinda sounds like promises were made during the recruitment process that he would start.
