It looks like edward will be out for awhile since he pulled his other hamstring so we won't have as many options to choose from anyway.

Anyone else think that Jacoby should be batting down in the 7-8 spot? It's a flat out crime to have our lowest OBP hitter hitting leadoff. I realize his numbers are a little depressed by the horrible first couple weeks of the season, and he's been better since then, but 285/321/390 is simply not the kind of production that warrants batting in the top half of the lineup.

He has good speed and can hit all pitches so I like him there. Numbers do not tell the whole story. We do not have a better option at lead off unless fields starts hitting consistently

Some of you have very clearly never watched an LSU baseball game this year.

The idea that SBs are inherently more valuable from the leadoff spot is just this kind of received wisdom with no basis in reality. Jones can steal bases from the 7 spot as easily as from the 1 spot. The problem isn't what he does once he gets on base, it's whether he can get on base at all.

Our best option at leadoff is probably Raph Rhymes (to be fair, Raph Rhymes is out best option at literally any spot in the lineup ). He's by far our best hitter and best on base guy, so why not maximize the number of at bats he gets? He'd be all but guaranteed to set the plate for our 2-3-4 guys to have a chance to knock him in. And it's not like he's a big power hitter, so leadoff seems like a great spot for him.

Failing that, Nola should be leading off.

Jones has the second best BA on the team in conference play (.327). He's scored 11 runs (fourth in the conference) and leads the league with 6 doubles. Which means he's going to be getting on second base alot by himself, either by double or steal. And he'll score on any hit in the outfield from second, pretty much. He's by far our best leadoff option.

ETA: Batting average excluding Moore, Fields, and Snikeris, whose sample sizes are tiny.

Jones 2nd. Rhymes LF. Katz RF. Ross C. Moore 1st. Nola SS. Dozar the Barbarian/Snicky/HammyBoy Edward DH. Hanover 3rd. Foster/Fields CF. Here is why. Rhymes destoryed the ball as a number 2 last year. With Jones producing a lot of doubles this year, Rhymes can increase his RBIs this year even more. Ross had a bad weekend, but hitting well. Hanover in the 8th spot can lead to being some help for our back lineup if he gets back in the groove.

I'm not sold on Fields but think he's earned a shot. But I don't think he'll get one.

Jones
Dozar/Moore
Katz
Rhymes
Ross
Nola
Hanover
Edward
Foster

Not gonna move our leading RBI guy out of the 4 spot.

I just think we need to get him more at bats. Katz grounds into too many double plays. Let Rhymes be on base. This will allow more walks for Katz..good and bad thing depending on situation. Ross numbers can increase greatly if they keep giving Katz a free pass with Rhymes on base too. i know its not the traditional lineup but i would try it.

Yeah, just read that. Good for him. Hopefully Rhymes will be 100 percent by this weekend.

Actually, the reason Mainieri has Katz hitting 3 and Rhymes 4 is because Katz is more of a flyball hitter and less susceptible to the DP than Rhymes, who is all line drives and ground balls.
