no it's not, it's about not diluting the accomplishments of probably the GOAT college basketball player done in a legitimate setting by some kid playing basically at an intramural level that has failed to do over five full seasons of trying

What also isn't mentioned is that Pete had no other talent on the team, He was doubled and even triple teamed on many occasions to try and slow his scoring down in a game.

Holy missing the point, Batman.

The only reason this queer cares so much is it’s one more thing he can do to stick it to LSU basketball.

Good. Pistol didn’t have three point shots back then it would be so unfair. High percentage of Pistol Pete’s two point shots were actually from three point range.

Even if that happens Pat, and he 'breaks' the record -
THREE Considerations:
(1) Pandemic (5 years of playing for Davis vs. 3 for Pete - Soph-Sr)
(2) 3-pointers (At lease some of Davis' points came from the three-point line, vs ZERO for Pete.)
(3) Many more games played for Davis.

Yeah it’s really not even a logical debate.

And that piece of shite majorly influenced our self destruction of the basketball program.

LSU broke that scumbag POS.

So you believe its immoral to pay kids to play, but its OK to buy into a tournament in order to to break a record that was establish through legal means.
I never mentioned morality. I just noted the actual rule, which is something that WW failed to do, which is why LSU basketball is in the predicament that it’s in.

quote:Well I'm an old man. I was there for every home game Pete played for all four years. Yes it was the Pete Maravich show. Yes his father did want to promote him and display all his talents. But to suggest that they didn't want to win games and that Pete wasn't our best bet to do that is just being clueless. You don't think his shooting percentage was high enough. You try shooting difficult, sometimes seemingly impossible shots, with two or three guys hanging all over you.
LSU basketball at the time was way more about putting on the Pete Maravich show
Who was going to take the shots if Pete didn't? In his three years on the Varsity there were maybe four players that could shoot and score. And only one of those could create his own shot. The rest depended on Pete's passes to score. Should there have been better talent on the team and was Press Maravich a poor recruiter? For sure that was the case and resulted in Press being fired soon after Pete left.
In spite of all this, LSU finished second in the SEC in Pete's senior year behind Kentucky and went on to the NIT tournament. People deride him for never taking the team to the NCAA tournament but in those days only the conference champion was allowed to play in the tournament. Also keep in mind that the year that Pete was on the separate Freshman team, the varsity went a pathetic 3-23. Pete wasn't just a fresh wind for the basketball program, he was a hurricane who blew away the entire basketball world.
It has already been pointed out that in those days there was no three point line and hand checking was allowed but few realize that there was no shot clock and some teams used a four corner stall game to keep Pete in check. Tennessee did this every time we played them and several other teams also. So there was much less time for Pete to get his 44 point average and he usually didn't.
So to say that Pete's records were not far greater than this bum who plays in an inferior league with all the benefits of modern rules and then played many more games is just so much cow pucky. There never was before and never will be again a player who had so much influence on the game that you can still see his moves being copied fifty years later!!
