re: I Would Rather Live/Die With Lee Than Go Through Another Jefferson Season

While there is trepidation with Lee based on the past, I really had gotten to the point that I couldn't take Jefferson anymore. I went through the whole offseason without any real sense of excitement for this coming season because I knew that we would have to put up with Jefferson's 8-20 for 95 yards over and over again. I had no confidence that he had improved or would improve, despite the reports. I tried to get excited before the Spring Game and then I watched him play and it was all the same.
I realized that Jefferson was who he was and while he has great physical ability, he cannot drive a team down the field consistently, even against the likes of McNeese St.
Then, when Lee was named the starter, I regained my optimism - not because I think that Lee is that great, but because he gives you hope. He might kill you with a mistake, but he can also move the ball consistently and make a big play with his arm.
I just want to see the offense move down the field. I am ready for the agony of the past 3 years to end offensively. I'm excited about the season and am hopeful that Lee will take us where we need to go.
Even if he screws up, I just want to see a passing game break 200 yards consistently. Lee can and will do that.
I'm really not sure what you're trying to say here. I would certainly rather "live" with Lee than have offensive numbers like last year's. But I don't think I'm interested in "dying" with Lee just to see some pretty balls thrown as a game slips away.
I hope we see a new Lee. The cadre of fanboys who wanted him to start have gotten their wish--under unfortunate circumstances. We can hope that he's made major strides in the offseason, but there is no need to romanticize his past. He was a below average QB. His play in 08, 09, and 10 will not cut it for a NC team. Turnovers matter. Consistency matters. Judgment matters.
JJ was, in the games between UNC and Bama, possibly the worst LSU QB I've ever seen (at 28). But when he played well, he played well. His best games trump Lee's best games, and he has many more good games than Lee does.
Let's not get carried away with the expectations for Lee. I want him to do well, but we don't need him to try to be Manning. We need him to protect the ball and get it to the playmakers when he can.

I'm under the impression that if JJ would have gone 11-2 this year, he would have become LSU's all-time winningest qb (THANKS TO THE DEFENSE!!!!). This can't happen. Winningest qb is always associated with being the greatest and JJ was No. 107 last year in the NCAA. There's no way JJ is the GREATEST QB IN LSU HISTORY!!!!!! Mickey Guidry, Chad Loup and Josh Booty were better. Well, maybe not Booty. Perhaps the only QB in LSU history disliked more is Jamie Howard (5 picks vs Auburn). As an 8-year-old, I could tell the bookies had him in their back pocket for that game. NOBODY IS THAT BAD, NOT EVEN LEE OR JJ, even though Wickersham threw five picks in the Sugar Bowl against Nebraska - at least his picks were close and we could tell he was trying to win.

So you are saying that if we go 8-5 this year with one QB, it's better than going 11-2 with the other QB? Brilliant!

I think it should be said differently ..."we went 11-2 in spite of our QB"...
4 TD's all year long!!!

After reading the reports in the off season, I will admit I was buying it..and was reasonably excited about JJ this year.....the cotton bowl gave me much hope..
With that said, I really thought Lee earned the starting position a couple of times...When given the chance to stay on the field and do something, he actually did...
He can't move all that well, and that's why JJ gets the nob...but barely

Navy, great post.
I'm sure you can see from this thread, the reason why I stop reading this board every year around this time.
The opening game seems to bring the idiots out in force.
For some good lively informed football talk mixed with a bit of intelligence, I head over to the SEC Rant and leave this board far behind.

JJ is better at reading defenses. JJ throws a better deep ball. JJ is a better runner. JJ has better footwork but Lee has a better throwing motion. Lee is slightly more accurate and puts better touch on the ball. That is how I would break them down after watching them play the last 3 years.
I guess taking off running if the primary receiver is not open could be construed as reading defenses.

quote:You know, this is the truth. Our previous years under JJ's leadership have been interesting, but honestly, the (lack of) offense was offensive! Am looking to enjoying some excitement on offense this year (and trying to not think of JJ having a redshirt return next year).

I have echoed this all week. TOTALLY AGREE. JJ was a miserable QB to watch. Nothing ever looked natural. It will be nice to see passes on target downfield.

This is going to be longest 36 or so hours in history.

AMEN. I couldn't take JJ any more. We were ranked in the 100's in passing the football. And it had a lot to do with JJ. everybody can scream it's the coaches fault but if the first WR wasn't open JJ would start to choke. I am going to pull fir LEE because in the passing game he gives us the best chance.

One of my biggest problems with JJ is he couldn't anticipate a receiver coming open. He had to see the receiver in the clear before throwing the ball. That resulted in him always trying to fire it in there, which hurt his accuracy. It was infuriating to see guys wide open and have the ball nowhere near where they could catch it.

Think about what could happen.
JJ is granted a red-shirt and comes back next year to screw up ZM's oppurtunity to lead our "Damn Great Football Team".

I don't even want to think about that. It would be like driving a VW 'Thing' and leaving your Porsche in the garage just because the 'Thing' has more miles on it.

Wow AlaTige, a lot of use of the I "word". You make reference to " him/ I" nearly 20 times in this piece. Remember there is no "I" in team but there is in Fan or Fanatic. Ease up on the I, it's not a good look.

Oh, I'm not making excuses. Just the facts.
If Lee has a great game, I would bet good money you wouldn't say "Les called a good game and his gameplan caused Lee to have a good game."
But you are already preparing your scapegoats, and that's just pathetic.
