The worst part of WJ's ability to transform our pitching staff as many had predicted, is that this performance this year by him, or lack thereof, may have a negative impact on other top portal pitchers wanting to come to LSU and be under his tutelage.
That was one of the biggest benefits i thought his hire would be for LSU baseball going forward. The performance by our staff this year has to have a dampening influence on that potential.

You are hoping for an early exit in the tourney? Being number 1 absolutely means fricking nothing at this point. The real goal is to be a top 8 national seed. Exiting early in the conference tourney is not a way to get a top 8 seed.

How many number 1 teams have won the whole thing? Every team is going to have to deal with injuries, pitcher arms being tired.

This series loss was not on Wes Johnson. Too many walks yesterday and leaving the bases loaded 3 times with 1 run scored. That was the game right there. Home headed base running. Jones getting caught off 1st base with Dugan up 3-1 on the count and potential bases loaded with Morgan was another miscue.

The hitting was not there this weekend. That is baseball. They will be fine.

Nor was the pitching, but hey that’s just baseball, right?

Well he was doing excellent in the MLB. His pitching staff had the Twins leading their division when he left to come here

Randy Johnson was 17-9 over a 162 game season for career. He lost 9 games every 26 he pitched. 2/3rds is good in baseball. We are above 2/3’s.

Last night he should have pulled Floyd after back to back walks, because the wheels were done.

Floyd and Little are basket cases

Some of you people have very short/bad memories. Floyd pitched his best game of his career last week against a very good hitting Bama team. But yea he's a head case.

Also, would imagine LSU throwing him a 400k raise was a major factor in him leaving pro ball.

It appears Umpiring are squeezing the zone harder than in the past and the pitch clock element is an adjustment. Most of these players throw year around, no time to rest arms leads to future injuries. We probably should have a few Non Pitcher only players that can come from a position to pitch..

How is it that the pitching is this bad after that from a depth standpoint

Maybe because our second best arm (Shores) is out for the season. Our best reliever (Edwards) is out for the season. A likely weekend starter (Taylor) is out for the season.

It’s not on the pitching coach when multiple guys can’t throw any of their pitches over the plate for a strike.

In a nutshell yes. Everyone knows that LSU pitching after Skenes is not good. The SEC crew showed the graphic many times in the broadcast last night. It is what it is. A patchwork. Floyd was pitching well. Struck out 7 in a row. Then he could not overcome the adversity of the 4th inning. Is that on Floyd or pitching coach?

Everyone knows that LSU lineup is lethal. But this weekend the bats were not there. 11 total runs over 3 games. When they are averaging just around 10 a game. The hitting has hidden the pitching woes. Both were bad this weekend. It is just one weekend. It happens.

Vandy supposedly has the best team after LSU and they lost a series to Bama who LSU swept. Bama has an interim head coach too. We will see how LSU bounces back. Til then, why get worked up?

Like I said in another post, some turds can’t be polished. I’m not gonna blame this on Wes Jonson yet.

It's hard to blame him, when you have injuries and your transfers aren't producing and the strike zone shrunk so much.

There have been questionable pitch calls that hopefully get fixed. We all know you can't throw balls down Broadway or you will get abused in this league. But, I don't like throwing 4 curveballs in a row when the opposing batter is sitting on it or the pitcher hasnt thrown one close to the strike zone. Plus what is he doing about the head cases like Hurd, Floyd, and Little. He's got to find a way to get them settled down.

Shores was being developed for end of season and post season. Lost that arm.

Why? He helped pull in one of the top portal arms and that pitcher has gained 4 or 5 mph on his fastball and is the top pitcher in the country right now. Hurd was always going to be risk/reward. He was coming back from a major injury and needed to settle back in to pitching. Injuries have been the major problem this season. Noot and Shores were both huge pieces lost before and during the season. You could say the same about Taylor and Edwards. Taylor, Shores, and Noot all had the ability to take over the Sunday starter role.

How much are the injuries the result of Wes Johnson’s off-season and preseason pitching program? We killed Mainieri and Alan Dunn for all of the pitching injuries so I think it’s fair to ask if Johnson’s training program is a factor in the injuries.
