Yeah, I think everything you are saying is spot on. Shocker, I know.

quote:

The thing is they have no big men

They are a rim protector/rebounder away from being better than last season.

quote:

Thought Emmitt brought it tonight but you’re asking a lot of a 6’6” guy to bang like that with no relief over a full schedule

I absolutely love E. Williams. Loved him last year. He plays much bigger than 6'6". The fact of the matter is though, is that he is not bigger than 6'6". It's fine when you play bigger against 6'10", unatulethic bigs. You can make up that size difference. When you have a true big though, there is only so much Williams will be able to do.

That's just going to be the reality of this team.

Tremont used to single handedly beat the press by himself.

Team needs some work on that area of game.

Nope. You know nothing about my basketball takes & surely didn’t read them last year if that is what you think.

Auburn’s biggest player last year was 6’8. They made a final 4

Lets not forget how frustrating we were to watch in the beginning of the season last year. I’m not expecting 16-2 again. But I think they are capable of winning 12-13 games in conference play and getting a 5/6 seed in the Tourney. After that it all depends on the draw as to how far they go. I don’t think there is anyone that they can’t play with and beat if the shots are falling

Yes. If you are going to play undersized then teams better not be able to press you. That is a must to improve, but it's an area we are at least capable of improving. We can't make Williams or Days grow 4 inches.

I don't want to be a debbie downer, and I know Bowling Green is a pretty good mid-major, but after one game, I don't see anything that tells me this team is better than last year's.

How did LSU look in their first couple of games last season.
Though I agree, I don't expect them to be better than last season.

Our best defender and our biggest player are both hurt. When Taylor and Thomas get back the defense and rebounding will change plenty. It’s one game, Wade hasn’t settled a rotation until 1 or 2 games into conference play in either season so far so making snap judgments now is just way, way too soon.

Dude, I'm not making a snap judgment. Why is it that no matter how carefully you word something on this site, people always get offended if you aren't blowing sunshine up the team's butt?

I was very clear in saying "after one game" and "obviously there is a lot of time to improve" and made the point that if we're talking about what we see from this game, because it's all we have to go on so far, this is what I see.

I think LSU is a very GOOD team. I don't KNOW that it is better, and since this topic is being discussed after one game, I don't see what the OP sees in terms of this being a better team than last year. Why don't you go and tell the OP not to make a snap judgement? I know why you didn't... Because what he said makes you feel better than what I said.

Well guess what? It doesn't matter what any of us say. These are just opinions.

Having Taylor back gives LSU some more depth but, frankly, he hasn't shown to be polished player at anything. So I don't know why I should EXPECT his return to make a significant impact, though it would be nice to be pleasantly surprised on that front.

And we don't know anything about Thomas. He's not coming in here with Kavell's type of junior college credentials. I hope he helps, but he hasn't played at this level, so who knows?

As I said before, we'll see how they progress. My hope is that these guys gel enough that they will be dominant offensively, and be able overcome the lack of size.

They shot the living crap out of the ball, that's why. I don't see LSU shooting it that well.

Again, you're making it sound like I said LSU is going to suck. I just said I don't see anything, yet, to tell me that this team is "better" than last years. I think LSU makes the NCAA tourney. Could they be a 5-6 seed? Sure. If they improve a lot, maybe they do even better.

I'm just wondering what anyone saw from tonight that tells them this team is better than last years. It's not hard to understand what I said.

Agreed we are still green around the gills but have the leadership where it’s needed so I think this team can be great. Excited the year started although we have unfinished business with Bama tomorrow.

They looked fine in their first couple of games. It was when they went to Orlando that the poop hit the fan for a little bit.

But I know what you're trying to say, and I agree. I'll state what I've already said a couple of times now: What did the OP see tonight that gives him this impression? Is he just saying this on a hunch, or is he basing it off of what he saw tonight? Either way, it seems like a lot to ask of this team to be as good as last year, given what they lost, and how little they replaced it with.

We got Watford and a bunch of guys who will hopefully develop into key contributors down the road, but who probably won't do a lot this year. That was my preseason general feeling about this team.

This team can win a bunch of games. Without a rim protector it is not going to go as far.
We will get hammered on the boards on the road in the SEC.

Still can win 25 games. If we get hot from three we could make a tournament run.

The three point line got moved back 16 plus inches.

Have to make three to five more threes per game to account for less rebounding power

Yeah I did I liked the maturity of some the guys who were freshman last year and Watford is really good. Going to be a fun year. Remember we aren’t far removed from the JJ era and those scars are still there. We have team that will be competitive with most no doubt.

Not even close. I’m a WW lover I have access to practice. I see the glaring weaknesses as do the staff. This team will be 5/6 games worse in lost column in conference than last year. Taylor being out for extended period of time is key in my prediction. As usual they play hard but deficiencies are obvious.Last year KBW was my MVP. He will be missed more than anyone else. CWW will continue to stack classes and hopefully a few who should come back next year from this team do and we make major run then. I’m ready for another fun ride but no way we come close to repeating.

Will see it in our non-conference schedule. Emmitt and days can bang a little. Havent seen watford yet, but tape shows him as a next level 3 so dont see him being a tasmin mitchell who can bang, but i could be wrong. We have a great front court and athleticism. Hope they have good chemistry.

That was a big whiff on my part.

But Go ahead and tell me what specifically you disagree with. Wade has all but said he bombed the recruitment of competent big men.

The team will still be pretty good. But they aren’t as good as last year.

Ok ok fair enough. How long is Taylor supposed to be out and why didn’t we get another Big from a Juco to fill the needed hole thats so glaring?
