As long as this offensive staff stays in place, expect more of the same. We could have bamas offensive players and still be mediocre with these coaches.

If O does replace E after this year (via E stepping down) and Sullivan also retires I am wondering if O used this seasons offensive coaches (some of them at least) as a stop gap. If he had his eye on certain coaches last year and couldn't get them for whatever reason maybe he asked E to fill in for this year only, trusting he would keep the team steady and do it for minimal pay. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

Maybe I am too.

Or maybe he does retain SE next year and by some miracle, SE is successful. Anything is possible.

I just hope that's not the plan.

O: Steve I need you to be the OC for me.

E: Ed, I'm good being TE coach. I'm too old and haven't run an offense in a long time. I like my position, hire a good young kid and let him run it.

O: Steve dammit I'm gonna git fired and so are you if a young kid comes in wanting his own coaches. We got to keep my job at all costs so you can keep yours.

E: whatever you need coach.

O: go tigahs.

I think if he retains E you will see some improvement in the offense but it will ultimately play out like this year. We will be heading in to the Bama game with a full head of steam and E will be out coached. Maybe he gets some points on the board in year three, but I will never be convinced that Ensminger can beat Alabama no matter the talent level of the players.

Why would O be fired if he hired a young successful OC who brought in some of their own staff?

I'm not making an excuse for O. He has failed twice in the hiring of his OC's.

Agreed on the screen issues but the slant passes even worked against Bama.

Spread the field early to set up the run.

This will help our OL and Burrow has the accuracy.

Dave Aranda one Of college footballs best defensive mind’s, thinks SE is a knowledgeable Offensive minded coach not just O. Getting the right Olinemen & Depth on the line, having the wide receivers catch the ball, and having 2 elite running back’s next year. It will be like watching a whole new offense next year

No leash and couldn’t risk another Canada situation and/or struggles implementing and teaching a young offense when it would be 3rd OC n as many years. Ensminger was the safe hire and I understand why but will he realize he needs more to win a championship

When I say "modern" offense, I mean modern concepts. Spread, read option, up-tempo, etc.

We've seen these things tried this year. They just either get abandoned quickly or are ineffective. Somebody said that the spread concept SE runs is ancient. That may be very true, but I don't think it's O's intention to run an ancient form of the spread. I just don't think the coaching staff knows any better.

How about an offense that isn't ranked 90th in various national stats?

"I think O wants a modern offense." This isn't like the search for the Holy Grail. Schools like Utah State and Washington State (with much less the facilities, recruiting base, etc.) run offenses lightyears better scheme-wise than LSU.

If O "wants a modern offense," then he needs to hire a "modern coordinator." Ya know?

Which is inexcusable.

It is. If you're going to try these things, then do them right.

IMO, I think we need to be able to do multiple concepts. Like Bama. But just because we are trying these concepts is not enough. We need to use them at the right time in game situations. We also don't need to be running an ancient form of it.

I think the only way to do it right is to bring in a new OC. I really wish Kiffen would come, TBH. I think he has the right idea when it comes to running multiple concepts. And he can even run pro when he needs to.

O doesn't know what offense he wants, because he doesn't know or understand a single damn thing about offense. Out of his league.
