You might have a point but it’s not going to happen. The past 18s want it to continue. Kids come to LSU wanting to wear 7.

While you and others may have a point in ending the tradition. It’s just not gonna happen.

I think it’s cooler when guy’s keep the number that the fans grow used to them wearing. Like if Kevin Faulk all of a sudden switched from #3 to #7 his senior year, that would’ve been lame to me.

I'm kinda thinking 18 for Nuss, 7 Weeks. As I understand it, they try to save 18 for the player best showing leadership from Louisiana, and Nuss is the guy.

Mauck was pretty damn good and the reason the tradition exists.

Outside of LSU, ever heard of the Mannings? 2 are in the Hall of Fame and both wore #18.

I don't care either way for the #7 thing, but I like the #18 tradition. As someone else said, it is something they even talk about surrounding the NFL draft.

The #18 thing is the stupidest "tradition" that I've ever seen. The #7 one is a close second.

I almost agreed with you! But how can anyone think the 18 tradition is worse that 7?

I wish this stupid fake “tradition” would die.

7 needs to end too but it at least had substance.

Pretend for a second its june 2004 and im Matt Mauck:

“I say, who is that impressive looking freshman fullback?”

Some guy: “ oh thats 2 star recruit Jacob Hester out of Shreveport.”

Mauck: “Alas, i shall bestow my number 18 on him.”

Like yeah im so sure he actually “passed down” the number but it makes for a cute little story so everyone goes along with it.

The entire reason the #18 is a thing is because of a quarterback in 2003. Are we that removed already?

Honestly Nuss getting 18 would be the move. I thought Jayden coming in then Walker kinda being talked about being the next great (it was said, don't lie), I for sure thought he was leaving. Boy was I wrong. Guy is a team guy and college football needs more of him.

Hester called Mauck and asked him if he could wear his number. I just don't understand the hate that a new tradition gets. All traditions start somewhere. If this goes on for 100 years, is everyone still gonna bitch about this topic?
