I think I was wrong about Anthony Jennings.

I might have jumped the gun a little in judging Jennings ability to play quarterback for LSU. I guess my assumptions were based on the Iowa game last year. After watching the Wisconsin game again today, I think the coaches held him back a lot in the Iowa game.
On Saturday night he was very accurate with the majority of his throws. Yes, he doesn't throw the screen well, but beyond that his throws were very good passes.
I assumed after the Iowa game that he was going to be just like Jordan Jefferson. What I saw was that JJ only threw the ball when the receiver was open. I saw Jennings performance against Iowa and it looked like he was doing the same as JJ. But against Iowa, he was throwing to where the receiver was going, not to where he is at that moment.
In my mind, what makes a good QB, is his ability to anticipate when a receiver will be open. Mettenberger was tremendous at "throwing receivers open". Jennings showed that same attribute against Wisconsin. There was one throw in the third quarter where he hit Dural in stride across the middle for a big gain. Jennings threw a tight spiral, and it was delivered in such a way that Dural didn't have to break stride
He throws a great ball, very tight spiral which makes it easier to catch the ball. His throwing motion reminds me of Warren Moons throwing motion. He's very accurate with the long ball, which helps take defenders away from the line of scrimmage.
I'm excited about what he brings to the table. I know it was just one game, but his performance gives me hope that we won't have to re-live 2008.

The fact that you had already made up your mind about him after only making 1 start was kinda silly. At least you apparently realize that though.

Also, he is accurate on the run too...big plus.

tried to tell you guys

It also helped that the play calling was much better. They trusted him more he looked like a completely different QB from the middle of the third on. I am proud of how a young team handled being down in that game. I think the future is bright for this young team

I think it was just the fear of knowing that we were losing one of the best QB's ever at LSU, and he was being replaced by a very young, un-tested player. Like I said before, I just don't want to have to re-live the JJ era.

They have to try to give him some easy throws to get into a rhythm. He was 7/19 in the bowl, 9/17 in the spring game, and 9/21 vs wisconsin. He has to improve those numbers amd hopefully it'll come with more games under his belt.

I guess we need to get him on the run more then. His accuracy statistically has been very low.

The first TD pass to Dural reminds me of Baylor RG3. Passing was his first option. He didn't want to run it like any normal dual threat would.

I think the coaching staff needs to throw their hats in 100% on Jennings and let them know they have complete confidence in him. Let Harris know he is the future of the program but right now it's Jenning's team.
Harris will be an absolute stud but it isn't his time and he needs the game to slow down for him. The physical tools are there. Let him fill out a little more and he honestly could be battling LF as the 2016-2017 Heisman candidate LSU has representing the team in NY. But it's AJ's squad.

Agree

How could you tell from the 1 pass play he was allowed Saturday? The tight end completely let the end come unblocked for the sack. Not exactly a large sample size to form an opinion.

I watched this throw on DVR today probably 10 times.

He was far from good in the game's entirety. A qb rating of 31.9 isn't going to cut it most games, but he really grew up in this game. I do agree that he made good decisions with the football. He made a lot of good reads on running plays and threw some nice timing route passes. The most impressive attribute to his game in my opinion was his management. We lined up correctly, we had plays called in time, he was a confident leader. Also, 8 of his 9 completions went for 1st downs....the only one that did not was the Travis Dickson fumble play.
As a team there are things that we need to clean up and we have to explore more of an intermediate passing game, but Jennings really led this team well.

So two games is when you can effectively judge? Doesnt sound like youve learned from your mistakes

It is quite evident that AJ is being brought along slowly and most definitely being held back. I must say that he did not make any major blunders. With a couple of 'lighter' games coming up it will allow him to polish and prefect his fundamentals. Anthony will be a very competitive signal barker.

I'm pretty sure he was hit as he threw, as well, if it is the same pass I'm thinking about.

I don't think it's a practice issue, I think it's a hyped up issue that will be corrected with more experience

JJ proved he had a thinking issue, AJ hopefully does not
