I think or lets just say "hope" JJ will be fine! However I do believe Shep has to get involved more, if hes not, I do not believe Miles or Crowton is leaving him out on purpose. Maybe hes not grasping the system or something I dont know, I'm not a coach and dont pretend to be one. But I do believe that these last couple of games was the time to get him more plays in different situations and that has not happend, thats why I tend to think theres more to it than what meets the eye.... Hopefully I'm wrong, but Les has been a pretty "damn" good coach so far, so we'll see...

Katy Tiger,

You are correct.....I have not seen a "hot route" run by this team since Day 1....with athletes like Dickson, TT, Lafell, RJ Jackson, RS, and Holliday, it would seem that this would go for an occasional "big play".

Hell, we don't even run a screen unless the other team absolutely knows it's a screen. My wife and I were watching the game yesterday - JJ had just been sacked for a loss on 1st down (when we were already within FG distance). I looked at my wife and said "now watch, they're going to finally throw a screen here, and we're gonna get killed because MSU will read this before the snap even goes off. Sure enough, a screen called that almost produces a sack and illegal grounding, but instead produced an "illegal man downfield" penalty. When I saw this, I told my wife.....just wait, this game is going to be a nail-biter now.... should never have happened.

I heard this and I could not agree more. You do what you do and you do it well, this team does not have anything on offense they do well.

It is so frustrating to watch and I honestly believe pure talent has kept things together this year and not the coaching.

I really think the "check with me" before every play tends to help kill any and all flow that the offense would otherwise have.

I think they do that because JJ seems to have trouble reading defenses. I hope he improves with experience.

I'd agree if we were talking about Shep running the offense as QB right now. But we're not. We're basically talking about him running a handful of plays as basically a glorified RB.

And keep in mind, Shep isn't your typical true freshman. the kid was here for the full Spring (he graduated early) and summer. By now, he ought to know 10 or 12 plays...and if he doesn't, that's on the staff.

Honestly, I think Les came up in an era of football that says you have to be dominant up the middle with the run game or you are not a complete team. His unwillingness to let go of that philosophy and trust a different approach shows itself in the tendency to go back to the I-formation runs right up the middle on an 8 or even 9 man front. Even when it has failed consistently against 4 opponents of inferior talent.

The real dilemma is does he need to see it happen once or twice with success to finally let go or will that only embolden him more to run it again.

the key to a solid running game is the OFFENSIVE LINE

we cannot get a push to open up the holes in the middle.. it looks like we want to be that same power running team we have been then throw off of that success, but when we cannot get runs up th middle for very much and the defense can rush for jefferson in obvious passing downs, our offense won't be very explosive.

after 4 games, i think the problem with our offense is the line.
(its not jefferson, not scott, not the lack of shep, not the receivers, etc.)

im not a negatiger i am just calling it like i see it

we are 4-0!!! but if we want to keep it that way we need to get these o-line concerns fixed this week

it's looks to me like we're more concerned with trying to distribute the ball around amongst our playmakers than with employing what works. P.T. is supreme. we can't get anything going consistently so we don't keep the ball long enough to spread it around. catch 22.

If you can't run up the middle at any level of football, you can't win.Teams are stacking the box hoping LSU will pass.Due to poor pass bocking,JJ's inability to go through his progressions,or a combinaton of both Tigers' passing game is not respected.

Yes. It all starts with the O line. All other concerns are secondary and no offense will be successful and no identity established without this. I remember learning this lesson the year after Faneca, Perry, and Bordelon all left in one year. We had a horrible line the next year. Mealey went from looking like an all SEC back to a bum. We had no offensive identity and lost a bunch of games. It's much the same this year. All the all-world skill players you can have will simply look weak and ineffective without horses in the trenches. We have ponies. Hope they grow up soon.
