He threw less int than Flynm

Ints are not the only mistake a quarterback can make. JR fumbled 4 times in 2006 because of his tendency to be careless with the ball when under pressure. That gives him 11 total turnovers compared to MF's 11 turnovers, seems equal to me. Also, considering how seldomly he was sacked, 4 fumbles is pretty terrible.

when everyone in the stadium knew we were throwing the ball

MF actually had more pass attempts in less games. Just sayin...

Just got in this thread, but my thoughts are the JR is the most under appreciated tiger ever. The guy was amazing.

Joey, this is why TheDoc drops the race card so much.
I know. And it's bullshite that he can't see this guy as an idiot, or ignorant, or dumb, or irrationally biased by some other factor about either Russell or Flynn; all he can see is a white guy and a black guy, so anything he deems irrational must be based on race.

One, I haven't attacked Flynn on this site
I didn't say you were attacking him. I said you were making a point about him and diminishing his achievements. You can argue that claiming his National Championship team "didn't stand out" is not diminishing his achievement, but I'll continue to disagree.

LSU was completely deserving of the NC, we had the best resume. Do I think we stood out? No
Wow. Deserving the National Championship by not standing out. Now I completely understand.
quote:

We were the only team left
Usually, when every other team is gone and only one team is left, that stands out.

no one hated him. get over it, he's gone but not forgotten. I hate this thread. J.R. was clutch. He doesn't need you to speak up for his performance. you just want a 17 plus thread. I'd start one if I was so shallow..."Can J.L. come back or is J.J. our Quarterback?

You sink to the worst denominator of what's worthwhile on this board.

I think this thread is a slap (unintentional or not) at Flynn. LSU struggled mightily when Flynn left, not at all when Russell left.

Year prior to Flynn, 0 championships. Flynn, 2 championships. Year after Flynn, no championships.

Year before Flynn, 2 losses. Flynn, 2 losses. Year after Flynn, 5 losses.

Year before Flynn, 438 points scored. Flynn, 541 point scored. Year after Flynn, 402 points scored.

If this year has made us miss a Quarterback, we shouldn't have to jump past a BCSCG MVP to find one to miss, should we?

Even after 3 years, I still miss Jamarcus Russell. And despite the huge amount of excitement I have for Jordan Jefferson and Russell Shepard, every time I see him play I can't help but wish he was still our QB.

It blows my mind to think that people hated him here and wanted Matt Flynn to play ahead of him. This guy was so special and was one of the best talents to ever play at LSU.

So, who is with me??

To Jamarcus!

This is the ONLY post of this entire thread that i took the time to read so regardless of what any of you have to say..

Really? Is that the point here? More top 10 teams on the road is the be all, end all? So if you play a #5 team on the road and 11 1-AA teams at home, and I play 12 games against #11-#25 teams, 7 of them on the road, then it's not even debatable to you that you had the tougher schedule?

That's a retarded comment. 2006 had FOUR top 8 teams on the road, while 2007 didn't play anybody good on the road.

I liked JR too! Thought it was stupid many wanted Flynn to start over him. He had all the tools.

However, Jr left with 1 year of eligibility. He was a #1 pick. He did the right thing. I would like to think he would lead us to a NC in 2007 but we will never know.

I do know this... 6 minutes left in the Sugarbowl JR takes his shoulder pads off on the sidelines with the game still on. I took that as "He couldn't wait to be done with college football". I am not mad about that but it struck me as different when Matt Flynn made the press conference in full gear.

I hope JR sucess and honor what he did at LSU. But... Like Flynn... It is pretty much over now. These threads are pretty much useles because it argues or pines for something that is impossible.

JR was a great Tiger. He should be honored as such but that is all.

If all you're trying to say is that Flynn was a good quarterback you'll find no argument from me. There is an extreme double standard when comparing the two though. JR completes 68% of his passes and people say he was inaccurate; JR has a 3:1 td/int ration - which is sick - and people say it was all the receivers and no credit to JR. Flynn throws an interception on the final play of the regular season w/ a trip to the title game on the line and noone even blinks b/c pitt beat wvu

If you want to start a thread about how great Flynn was I'll gladly jump in and list the reasons why I loved the guy. Jamarcus was a great QB as well and I do not understand why there is this need to try to tear the guy down; take joy when he struggles and give him zero credit when he succeeds.

One last point. His average completion for the three years at LSU is 8.5 yards. His junior year it was barely 9 yds/completion. Mindblowing

that IS actually good...

Matt Maucks senior year was just under 13 yds/completion.

matt mauck left LSU as a junior.

A qb like Flynn/Mauck, clearly with less raw physical talent than JR that wins championships is a better qb IMHO.

teams win championships.

revisionist history. both flynn and mauck made all kinds of mistakes. shite, mauck threw 2 INT's in the championship game, and with a lost fumble, and the defense STILL took care of everything.

and had better natural insticts thus making them better overall QB's.

what?

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

JR was talented, no doubt. But he's been placed upon a pedestal by some when he shouldn't be. He played great in some games, and poorly in others. You never knew how he would react under pressure. Same as Flynn, Mauck, etc.

That said, after last year's debacle with Lee, I missed JR too.
