I still don't understand why we didn't go after Kendall Briles as OC.

It makes no sense to me. His O has been unstoppable everywhere, proving it again in Houston. Instead we get a 70 yr. old. Briles base salary is $400k, he's young and motivated.

Bad press because of his association with Baylor.

And we had the best OC in the country already on staff.

His connection to his dad is a terrible reason not to hire. It's not stopping anyone else.

I’ll one up you...it makes no sense that we hired a journeyman DL as HC.

I could swear I read that the BoT would not sign off on a Briles hire and the SEC was blocking freeze from going anywhere.

For the same reason no other P5 program has hired him. He's actually a party to a lawsuit alleging he encouraged the behavior of the Baylor football team that has 50+ allegations of rape. It makes plenty of sense to anyone with any...sense. Sometimes it's bigger than football, bud. And this isn't one of the situations where his conduct will be overlooked by major football programs with a lot more exposure than FAU or Houston.

For the record, I was for hiring Briles, but I was for the whole 9 yards - ART as OC and Kendall as a million dollar QB/OCIW hire.

Go big or go home.

Orgeron went conservative with the hire just like the offense that we have seen the first two games.
I guess after the Canada experience he didn’t want to make another bad choice so he played it safe.
Now our offense as a result is also conservative and producing under 300 yds a game

Honestly with everything that’s come out, if he was really as culpable as his dad we would have heard something worse than the “you like white girls” remakes.

We didn’t look into him. We were always hiring E. If I believed We actually did or due diligence and passed it would be one thing.

But Houston is rolling. They just beat a power 5 teams. They’re racking up points. The media probably can’t ignore it if Houston has a huge year.

Because Orgeron wants to run Orgeron's offense. His ego cant handle a big name OC. He is insecure and has to be the man.

Maybe maybe not. No one knew the depths of Zach Smith until they did. How bad would our AD look if they hired Briles and thereafter this trial starts and a lot more comes out that wasn't previously made known to the general public. Not to mention, Briles has a clause in his contract with Houston that says they have the right to fire him for cause if any new allegations of past misconduct comes to light, so they clearly still have concerns.

There's a reason no major program has hired him, and we were not the only major program in the country looking for an OC last year.

I don't disagree with that necessarily.
