Ehh, that's picking nits. If you add back Simmons to this team, I guarantee they win more than one conference game this year so far. If you add back Hornsby (who hardly played last year), Victor, TQ, Darcy, or Gray, you can't say the same thing.

Coaching, man. It makes a difference. Talent is the only thing that can make a dent in it.

In the half-court, Simmons is much more of a mixed bag. He saw some success operating with his back to the basket this season, but struggled when asked to act as a primary ball-handler and facilitator in pick and roll and isolation situations, due to lsu's poor spacing .

Simmons' best traits in the half-court revolves around his tremendous ball-handling and passing ability, as he has outstanding court vision and a knack for finding open teammates with bullet passes. He's one of just five players (Luke Walton, Danny Ferry, Nick Thompson and Jerald Honeycutt) in our extensive NCAA database to average over 5 assists per-40 minutes while standing 6'9 or taller, and is the only one to do so as a freshman.

There are a plethora of scouting reports that shite all over your ignorant opinion.

Just imagine what Simmons could have done with a competent coach and leader who knew how to motivate players within their roles, emphasized defense and had any kind of offensive identity. A 6'10" guy who can run like a gazelle with great court vision, handles and unbelievable passing ability.

and you quote this...

which completely supports my statement of him being ineffective running the perimeter in half court sets

then I say he was better in the low post and the same quote says...

Did you miss the "due to LSU's poor spacing" part? We are and have been a tremendously poorly-coached team. The numbers Simmons put up aren't up for debate. He made that team so much more competent (as did Victor and Hornsby [when they played]). Without him, last year's team is so, so much worse and with him, this year's team is quite a bit better. Can you at least admit these things?

When have I ever said LSU was well coached?

The coaching is not up for debate. My contention is and always will be he was more effective in half court sets in the post. On fast breaks he was incredible with the ball.

You said he was ineffective in the half court with that ball in his hands because of his poor shooting. Thats wrong.

BEN SIMMONS APG IN CONF PLAY ONLY= 4.7

His free throw attempts WENT UP in sec play.

Its like you dont know that you can look this shite up before posting.

if a player is more effective in the low post than on the perimeter where should he be playing? We did teams a favor by letting him run the offense when he wasn't a threat (once teams decided to sag off him when he was on the perimeter) from the outside. I guarantee you the great college coaches would have had him playing inside more often OR would have had better spacing for him to drive one on one. But I guess you are arguing JJ utilized his talents wisely?

So we should blame Jones and not Simmons. Like literally everyone but you and PEEJ have been saying all along. Glad you came to the party

" used to criticize his apathy at times but the dude had to be a miracle worker to get that team to 19 wins."

I agree that Simmons is extremely talented and that he showed signs of apathy while at issue. But the rest of your statement isn't true. The team had Simmons (#1 pick), Quarterman (made NBA roster), Hornsby (D-league), and Blakeney (will play professionally). That is MORE than enough to get to 19 wins.

Hornsby was the glue last year.

You clearly know nothing about basketball. Magic Johnson had a crap shot too. Was he also ineffective in half court sets?

Surely you're not comparing the two. Magic led his team to an NCAA championship as a freshman.
Simmons was a distraction.
Johnny would have failed on his own but Simmons didn't put off the inevitable. He accelerated it.

You're right, he's not. He's illustrating that a player can still be highly effective in the half court without a good jumper

Yep, he helped illustrate that even with the top pick in the NBA draft on his side, Jones is hot garbage.

yeh but I blame JJ more for allowing BS to play where he wanted than to play where he would have made the team better
