But man, we’d be a virtual lock for CFP if hadn’t lost to Trojans.

Not necessarily. If we were currently undefeated and lost two of our last five to finish 10-2, we could be in the outside looking in. It is quite possible that five SEC teams finish 10-2 or better and not all are getting in in the scenario. 10-2 with a 7-1 conference record is a better resume than 10-2 and 6-2 in the SEC.

This is correct. Things do not just happen in a vacuum. We probably were going to need a wake up call and it is better that game be out of conference than in conference.

That game was sooo frustrating because we were clearly the better team and more talented on both sides of the ball. It’s like we were sleep walking and weren’t close to ready.

Brian Kelly hasn’t had his team ready in 3 years since he’s been here. The main criticism of him is that his teams always get slow starts. Last night was different. We got off to a relatively fast start. Hopefully that is now fixed. But we can’t depend on taking five or six games for us to get the team rolling in the first quarter and expect to compete for national championships. Brian Kelly needs to clean that shite up.

If we play a cupcake in week one then usc in week two it’s a 3 score win for LSU

We should be thankful that game happened in week 1.
I hate losing a season opener as much as the next person, but agree, there will be more grace given to early season losses. This was the case with BCS, CFP committee 4 teams, and will be the same with 12 now.

The earlier the better. If you have to have a loss, get it out the way and blame it on new coaches, new scheme, new players, team not gelling yet, etc.

A loss in the next 5 weeks will hurt way worse than that one.

meh.. would rather lose the out of conference if given the choice. We are still a virtual lock for the playoffs if we can go at least 4-1 down the stretch
