I honestly believe this. This is a large message board. There are a LOT of people out there that read bs and believe it. Perceptions are formed, right or wrong. I would say that Miles is smarter than at least 90% of the people on this board....yet from all the posts you read, one that didn't know better would think he was an idiot.

The proof is there. Rantards will always be rantards, but we are damn lucky to have Les.if it were that easy to hire a "better" coach, programs like Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska, etc. would never suffer. What makes Miles stats even better is that he has consistently done it for so long. Those "better" coaches tend to coach a few years then jump to the NFL, or coach for a few years and burn out and jump ship. Miles has earned the right to have even back to back losing seasons without anyone blinking an eye over it.
I don't see how anyone could have trouble understanding the OP. Only one thing I would have done differently, since teams getting assigned 26 points for finishing outside the top 25 throws off the results, boosting some teams artificially. Assign 25 points for #1, 24 points for #2, etc. that way #25 gets 1 point and teams outside the top 25 get 0 points.

However you want to calculate it, Miles did better with "Saban's players" than Saban himself did at LSU. Miles has also won more frequently with "his own players" than Saban did with "Saban's players" or overall at LSU.
And yet there are literally thousands of people who think they're making a good point with the "Saban's players" bullshite.

agreed....and that is why this is so strong for LSU.....LSU had only one year outside the top 25...and with an 8-5 record and beatdown of a ranked GT to end the year, I'm guessing they were barely out of it. Some of the other teams finished MUCH farther outside the top 25 on certain years...

quote:where did you get this number? We certainly do not finish top 5 every year, we dont even finish top five in the sec some years. Proof our fans are complete idiots.
top 5 talent that finishes outside the top 5, is underperforming.

I find it funny when you guys say, but yeah, he has underperformed in certain games......which coach hasn't......unbelievable.....LSU is ranked 3rd overall for average finish under Miles...yet he is a buffoon.....hell, just imagine if we had a great coach.
First of all, in many ways and uniquely among the top echelon of college coaches, he absolutely is a buffoon. Everyone thinks this, because he has made it clear on numerous occasions. His defenders cannot hide that.
The question is whether it matters that he is a buffoon in many ways. His haters, like me, believe it does matter, that it has negatively effected LSUs performance relative to what it could have been in a decade that LSU should have dominated and instead was second best. Granted, we were second best to an all time great coach and program, but I don't believe we had to be. We have all seem the on-field performance, the record, the 2-loss championship season, etc. Quoting the record doesn't do anything to change the opinion of people who have watched every second of every game and seen Miles in action for 10 years.

The underperformance isn't in the wins and loss column for Miles.
It's in the preparation, the gameplanning, the execution of said gameplans, the attention to detail, the little things that all add up into a winning program. That is where Les Miles comes up shorter than Mini-Me.
How many timeouts have we burned for no reason other than players didn't know what the hell was going on? Having to come back from huge arse leads because we were out schemed and had to rely in our talent to bring us back into contention. Using the exact same gameplan when playing Alabama twice in a season, and the first game only resulted in a slim victory. And sweet Jesus, the horrible clock management.
I'll support LSU and our players. But, even though it doesn't even matter in the grand scheme, I'm done with Les Miles.

What are you talking about? Dinardos players would still be srs, rssr, or rsjr in 03. Kids redshirted back then and didnt bolt to the nfl as frequently.

Good.
But before you get off the bandwagon, i urge you to go watch some games under saban. You will see the same shite. Fans booed when he was coach as well.

See that's where you don't even make sense. He has proven, over a decade, that he wins more than any other program except for two programs. LSU is a big-time winning program, and you try to make it sound as if they aren't. Let me ask you something....if he fails on so many levels, then how does he win so much? Dont' give me talent....he does not have the third best talent over the last 9 years....someone needs to look at average class ranking over the last 9 years....and see how it correlates into the team's final ranking....I would be willing to guess there are more than two teams that have a higher average than LSU.....and that LSU's recruiting would probably put them around 10th on average.....but finishing in the polls 3rd....you call that underperforming? wow

over 9 years we are 8. With that being after katrina when the most talent rich part of the state was gone. Plus it is really just us on tosu, other team is boise. But they dont play in the sec west. in fact i bet our sos has been better than both of theirs over the last 9 years as well. You also have to consider the fact that that very strong 11 class isnt here anymore.

So we average 8th in recruiting over the past 9 years, but 3rd in final rankings out of all the programs in college football.....How in the hell is that underperforming?
Posted on 10/8/14 at 7:39 pm to Tigerinthehollow
It isnt. These people never liked Miles and never will. and guess what? there arent 8 teams that won a bcs title in that time frame either. We play 3 of them every year.

That's true for me (though I don't dislike him as a man), but it doesn't explain the general public opinion outside of LSU that doesn't respect him as a football coach.

Were you ever with Miles?
Or are you another of these poor souls suffering from rejected lover syndrome after Saban dumped LSU for the NFL?

No.
"Saban's Players" ('03-'04) 22-4 (0.846)
"Miles's Players" ('08-'13) 61-18 (0.772)

I think they respect that he has won a lot of games but don't think he could have done it anywhere else and wouldn't want him coaching their team.
