Sure, so I understand the frustration, but I do not believe it was targeting, but it's close.

The rule specifically states “ when in doubt it is a foul”

Also to add to the subjectivity, the rule specifically states:

quote:

“Targeting” means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball

The issue with the where the forcible contact was delivered only pertains to the documented indicators of targeting. The language above opens the door to this being a subjective call. To their definition, this certainly could have been called targeting, and in my opinion, there was no doubt that the quoted language above is pertinent.

The fact that hit ISN'T targeting, but Delpit's was, means the rule has major flaws

Yes, and it proves the refs CANNOT MAKE A CONSISTENT subjective call such as this. Its my opinion, Delpit's call does NOT fit the definition of "targeting".

Interestingly, the fact that there have been very few situations where the refs have REVERSED there initial call, with the exception of burrows. Is MYSTERIOUS at best, as well as SUSPECT

Refs must have missed the clear laceration on Burrows chin after that dirty.

I think the lacerations occurred after the initial hit. Joe fell to the ground, and when Connors fell on top of him, Connors’ face mask rubbed right over Joe’s neck.

The defenseless player cannot be used in this situation because he had a chance
of making the tackle. The defenseless player is used primarily for f player that gets a hit like that but is out of the play or a receiver on an incomplete pass

Except in the definition of defenseless player it specifically state that a QB ANYTIME AFTER a change of possession is a defenseless player.

So yes Joe was a defenseless player even if he had a chance at the tackle

After reading the first page it appears that most errbody that says that wasnt targeting may be right (or not). But nobody seems to remember that the blind side block like that one was outlawed by the NCAA 2-3 years ago. Whether it was part of a targeting rule or not I dont remember but it as damn sure was a penalty.

That rule has been mentioned here as well as the fact that LSU was called for it against Auburn two years ago.

The rules stating a QB is a defenseless player on a COP has been highlighted as well.

This was a blatant missed call that almost cost LSU their QB on top of a TD that UCF should not have been awarded.

CFB officiating is broken and nothing will be done to fix it.
