re: I have given up on "reading the tea leaves" from practice reports.

You just have to know what to look for. Some fans put way too much stock into specific reports/days/people and run with it. If you read/listen to a few different media members and pull what they all seem to agree on, over time it will be pretty accurate. Don’t get too caught up in what Ju'Juan Johnson is doing in a wildcat package or what great catch that our WR #8 made in a scrimmage. Those things largely don’t matter. Nobody is going to be able to tell you what games we are going to win or lose, but if you pay attention, you can generally gauge what the team’s strengths and weaknesses will likely be.

But, I am reading the same things you are today,,,...problems on the OL, inability to run,
Where are people getting this from? It's ridiculous to expect 40, 50, 60 yard house calls every run. That's not realistic. 4-5 yards on average is the goal for any offense & by all reports this has consistently happened at practice. People are freaking out about TFLs which will occasionally happen but how about chalking it up as the defensive front being more talented & disruptive against the run?

Practice reports. It’s been widely reported that the DL has been dominating the OL thus far during camp. A lot of TFL’s and then Durham will break one for 40-50 yards and it will boost up the average. Not saying it can’t improve over the next two weeks, but that has been the general consensus by the people that have been attending practice.

There are posters who want to be negative, so they will focus only on things they can complain about. There are posters who want to be positive, so they will only focus on what's good and over sell it. Both sides contribute equally to the nonsense.
We will find out whenever we get to watch the season play out. It's nearly impossible to make any accurate judgements when all you play is against yourself.

The third game will. UF is an SEC team again.

The dominating part is greatly exaggerated. The media look at TFLs as dominating when it's just one good play by the defensive front in particular. There's been just as many reports about Durham breaking off long runs as there have been reports about TFLs. People take what they hear or read & twist it negatively or positively in whatever direction they want to.

So chunk run plays should be ignored & aren't positives for the offensive line. Got it. You don't get those type of runs if you are being dominated upfront.

Aren't you the Florida kickers dad? I wonder why you think sunbelt Billy is ready to dominate.

Possibly, but they are the ones that are at practice watching with their own eyes. We aren’t.

I don’t know about “just as many” but yes I’ve seen that Durham has broken off a long run in almost every practice so far.

Agreed.

I didn’t say that at all… but we knew that Durham can do that. It’s incredible the amount of yards he is able to get after contact.

That’s not true. We saw it happen last year. Durham would break those types of runs off last year and we were last in the SEC in rushing.

Yea, I hope we beat their brains out.
They do have a good team when DJ is healthy…and we may be the only SEC team that faces him that way.

Burrow looked like a rookie his red shirt jr year.

The majority of the media don't know or understand what the hell they are even looking at from scheme or play design basis. Yet we have media like Jacob Hester & Matt Flynn who are saying both the offensive & defensive line get wins depending on the play. Hester has been consistent so far saying the offensive line is doing their job in the run game at practices.

10-15 yard runs are gashing runs too & they all haven't just come from Durham at practices. People hear what they want to & just latch on to certain things for whatever reasons.

So now all of Durham's runs are due to his physical abilities & nothing else? Why even have lineman on the field if Durham can do it all himself & make guys miss?

It is easy to read the tea leaves on here: Nussmeir has a serious knee injury, Van Buren is terrible, the OL is terrible, the OL coach is terrible, Sloan is in over his head, Kelly can't coach, etc.
That about sums it up.
Nailed it. Preseason pre-melt in full effect.

We didn’t lose to USC last year because of Nuss.
I'm a big Nuss fan but he threw a ball at the feet of Aaron Anderson that would have been a TD on the last drive. It's plays like that where you don't make them, it can be the difference between a win or a loss.

I was there too. We looked slow. Like the game plan was windows in safe mode.

The one case where that was not true, was the Burrow fall camp prior to the NC run.
We were warned about how good JD5 and the 2023 offense was in fall camp as well.

Hester and Flynn haven’t been consistently going to practices lol. They are reading the same reports that you and I are.

So who has consistently been gashing the defense for 10-15 yard runs besides Durham?

No but like 50% of Durham’s yards last year came after contact. If we didn’t have someone with that ability, we very well could have ended up dead last in all of college football in rushing.

USC beat our arse after all the bullshite last year. To get out manned by those fricks…
They didn’t beat our arse by any means. And I disagree with the sentiment that we were unprepared. We couldn’t run the ball, but that was because we couldn’t run the ball all year. Not unless Durham busted one, but apparently he wasn’t ready yet.
And we view USC through the lens of their entire season and how they ended up, not taking into account the cumulative effect of playing in the physical Big 10 with all the long traveling they had to do. Or injuries. That was the best USC team all year we played.
And their QB made some ridiculous throws and their WRs made some ridiculous catches in huge spots that we really couldn’t do anything about. They may have made more of those in that game than they did in all their others combined.
I remember at least 2 commentators really bragging on both teams and how that was incredibly sharp QB play from both guys for a season opener.
Were we better than USC last year? Yes. Should we have won that game on paper? Yes. Would we probably have beat them 7 times out of 10 if we played 10 times? Yes. But we didn’t. We played them that day, and they just played a little better. That’s why we play the games. It just hurt a lot worse because it was the 1st game, and it continued the pattern of putting us behind the 8 ball for the rest of the season.
By the way, huge balls by BK putting so much of an emphasis on the Clemson game. If we win, it was brilliant and could propel us to a great season like Miles did in ‘11 focusing on Oregon all offseason and that win spring-boarding us. But man, if we lose, not only will Kelly have to eat shite from the media and fanbase for a few weeks, it’s gonna take a great job keeping the team focused and putting it behind them. We’ll see.
