I don’t think CJ is the guy for Star

The last touchdown was on him being too slow to close in on Deuce.

I think you either bump Cooley down to Star and run Jhase Thomas at Cooley's typical spot. Or you do a little bit of combo play and instead of having a genuine "STAR" that is always out there, rotate Devhon Keys on plays you play your star like a backer, rotate Thomas on plays where you treat him like a 3rd safety, and Jakeem Jackson on plays like you are using him as a nickel and kick Woodland inside and keep Jackson out wide. I think they were fortunate that Spears could play all three of those roles well and I don't think anyone else besides Benefield probably can & I don't want to move him from where he currently is.

I think you're going to see a mix of that and Woodland moving to the slot and bringing in Jakeem Jackson. I don't think you'll see just Cooley at the Star because of the benefit to having 3 coverage corners. I think you'll see a mix and match. Spears was such a unique player because of his ability to play the run, blitz, cover receivers and tight ends at an elite level.

I think it will be a "by committee" approach if Jhase and Jimcoily are the only 2 guys they're looking at. Jimcoily would be the guy more near the LOS, while Jhase would play more coverage.

I can see this. I feel like that position should be more for “in the box” safeties, not linebackers. Whatever advantage they give you around the LOS is nothing compared to what they give up in coverage.
