ou can throw a plethora of pitcher like last night with Reynolds, Gilbert, Keil on Tuesday vs LA. Plus it gives them an extra day to rest should they be needed vs Georgia. The second is you throw Hess vs UNO the better team vs the better arm....
Wouldnt you want Hess ready for Georgia if he is the best? for long middle relief?
Posted on 3/16/17 at 9:12 am to tigerfoot
He's threw almost a full game he won't be ready.

As long as PM stays ----you'll get the same results---NO(more) NCs.........

All games matter, but in baseball because of the dynamics of the sport and the role of pitchers; each game is not the same.
Right now our number one asset is our starting pitching. We are much better with Lange and Poche' starting and to a lesser extent Walker and it falls off to Hess and then Johnny Whole staff.
We aren't a good enough hitting team right now to overcome average or below average pitching, but with our front line pitchers throwing Ed are pretty good.
But we have to get better 1-9 and as I see it the starters from last year need to start hitting the baseball to take pressure off the three rookies.

Cartwright was never in the mix.
We have plenty of pitching, more than last year.
Sure we need some consistency, but our pitching as a whole is ahead of our hitting.

Hess threw like 10 pitches an inning for 6. I dont know the view on 5 days rest for a Sunday appearance, but is that something that is ruled out?

I'm sure he can pitch as soon as Friday if they really wanted to but shouldn't be a need.

Just admit it. It's embarrassing to get swept by UNO and lose to fricking mcneese. We're supposed to be a CWS contender
I think some of yall need to realize just how easy it is to lose a midweek game these days in college baseball. Moreso than ever before.

Should midweek non conference games be banned?
What's to ban? They don't exist. At least not for ANY purpose relevant to NCAA selection or seeding, national ranking, etc., as we have been repeatedly assured by the board experts. Might just as well ban unicorns.

ou people really need to realize mid week games are pretty meaningless.
God knows that message has been hammered home endlessly. Seems we hear it a lot only when we lose them.

The players don't really care
Then why on earth are they playing? Why have this glorified practice session if no one cares? And why would players not care, even in practice?

all the other teams are out to beat LSU
Wait. Why? What team is expending any effort or emotion for a non-existent game that literally means nothing? Why are they wasting their energy in practice? Don't they know that a truly great team (like LSU, for instance) tries to lose these games on purpose, or at least doesn't give a shite about winning them? You know, because they don't count?

I'm not as concerned as some are about the "team" as I am about some individual performances. Catching is one , Jake Slaughter saving some of Robertson's poor throws to first base . Designated hitting . I think the middle relief is 50/50 at the moment . I expect CPM to get it sorted out and the Tigers will find their identity and move forward .

It's not fair to judge a team based on mid-week games. Coach is trying things, getting new pitchers quality experience.
I'm sure you'll be more confident when the Tigers sweep Georgia this weekend

Just to be clear, no one, not one single person in the world care about mid week games. Especially mid week games, in front of ghosts, in extra innings in the cold. Not one player or coach gives a damn, not Skip, not Paul. They dont want to be there.
Well then they should fricking quit. Because you can say it all you want, but these games do matter. Every single game matters. If you don't wanna be there then don't show up. That's a loser arse attitude to have.
This is the same lackadaisical bullshite that the football team went through with Miles. Same exact bullshite. Playing down to the competition then having to scramble late to win.

Your first problem is comparing baseball mid-week games to a football schedule
Second, you obviously have never played or watch baseball a day in your life if you think teams are going to go out on a cold Wed night against fricking Southland Conference team and play their hearts out when they have an important SEC series two days away that matter way more. Every single national championship baseball team has lost multiple mid-week games to inferior opponents.

I actually agree. There's a great mix of veteran players, good bats, young talent, and starting pitching. We have a couple of good relievers. I think we are finally starting to see what we have. I usually don't worry about the team until SEC play because that's usually when we see who we really are.

After mentioning Watson he then said Josh Smith and Zach Hess have also impressed him. I said "Hess over Walker?" and he said, "Well, Walker is good, too."

Calm down. Midweeks are like scrimmages and spring games.
You wouldn't see FB starting #2, #3 and #4 QBs, RBs and DBs against Southland and CUSA opp.

Obviously you've never played. It doesn't matter when or what the circumstances are once a game starts competitors compete. The uniform on the opposing side doesn't matter and the goddamned day sure as hell doesn't enter your mind. Besides this has nothing to do with players it's CPM. These games have a purpose or els why even schedule them. The purpose is to practice produce and instill winning habits. When you have superior talent and practice winning habits you'll win 90% of these games. Now sure every once in awhile you'll lose games but that's not what we are doing. Do you see winning habits being instilled? People who say mid week games are meaningless are stupid entitled ignorant sunshine pumpers period.
