I don't get how it's an indictment on Wade that he wasn't savvy and cunning enough

If you can read anything between the lines of the purported taped conversation, it is how distasteful he actually sees the whole process and HAVING to engage in it to recruit a player who would otherwise naturally be inclined to attend the school he is coaching.

I notice a lot of the preening posters here spouting lines like "his biggest crime is getting caught" or "he should have known better to talk on a phone."

To me, this should be what blows the whole thing to pieces with regard to the NCAA.

The everyone is doing it argument IS the argument. The fact that he was naive and uncunning enough to get caught and not as calculated as those who have been playing the wink and nod game for years, is the biggest indictment and admission of how pervasive this is and the utter worthlessness that is the NCAA.

Focusing every action on the potential repercussions from THAT organization in light of this seems to be little more than whistling past the graveyard at this juncture.

As a corollary, hearing how much the CBB world of the old guard of coaches hates him, one could argue it's because he is a renegade risking exposure to their system.

Wade's only mistake was being sloppy. anyone who thinks otherwise is naive to the nature of the game, rules or no

Good post. This and beating Calipari and Kentucky at Rupp brought this on.

Everyone knows UK pulls cute ones, but they are part of the chosen few in basketball.

Great post.

I don't think Haney intends to show LSU as corrupt; I think he's trying to show that the entire system is corrupt and unfortunately for us, Wade highlights that. And yes, Wade appears to be frustrated with it if that transcript is accurate.
