I agree 100%. People think because Orgeron was a failure at OM, that it will be the exact same here. FALSE. Anybody with a pulse can maintain LSU as a decent program. Orgeron has came a long way since OM days. I’m not a huge O fan but it is what it is. The program he was handed the keys to back in 2016 is night and day compared to Ole Miss back when he took over.

just because we are the LSU name brand that we should be better than everyone else.

Not better than teams in our class, but certainly competitive. better than lower quality programs.

we have been out recruited the last few years by alot of other SEC teams on top of losing players to the draft.

WHY? We don't pay our coach enough? Our facilities aren't good enough? We don't have enough fan support or a big enough budget? Not a good enough tradition? Why should we ever consistently be out recruited if indeed that is true? Now if we just misevaluated talent and they didn't work out, then we need some new blood in the program to help PM evaluate HS and JC players to recruit.

Injuries have hurt badly. But what about "next man up". Shouldn't we at least be 2 deep in talent? A few injuries doesn't seem to keep Florida out of contenting regularly in the past few years.

we have some potential guys that have shown flashes of greatness, but are inconsistent

We have generally shown those flashes against sub-par opponents. Against good pitching, we have been very poor at the plate, consistently bad, especially with RISP. You aren't always going to get hits, but the great Tiger teams found ways to drive in runs when it counted. This team has consistently failed at that. It goes back to a poor, or no approach (you don't really know unless you are in hitting meetings) and very poor pitch selection. We don't recognize off speed pitches and balls outside the zone. Consequently we swing at lots of pitches that would be called balls. If we make contact they are dribblers or pop-up outs. And as for batting average, our is padded by easy games and blow outs. Don't let that fool you. Look at our average with RISP. That is the story.
Josh Smith would have helped tremendously but he would not have saved this team from itself. This is not a good team. And it is its own worst enemy. Hope Paul can figure it out and get back on track next year. This year has been painful to watch.

I appreciate the long response and agree with most of it. We are turning it around in recruiting as far as rankings, and I'm not worried about pitching as much as I am hitting. We need a different approach there.

I wonder how involved Paul is in recruit evaluations. If he’s relying on Cain for the Evals, that maybe our position player problem.
Godwin and even Javi used to go get studs.

but will you deny that LSU's off years should be better than everyone else's?

Who do you think is responsible for these down years in recruiting? That's what you need to ask yourself. I think saying CWS or fire PM is ridiculous though. Expectations for LSU should be host a regional and play in supers maybe hosting that too. CWS is not easy for anyone to get to even with a great team. All it takes is a team who dominates all year to get cold in 2 straight games and their season is over.

I think LSU does have a talent problem right now on the team. Even without injuries I do not think they're that talented and that falls on PMs shoulders. Even without injuries to the pitchers we don't even have a true ace right now. If we struggle again next year his seat should start to get hot. Recruiting needs to be better for sure.

Like I said in a previous post, the 2015 class was horrible. That being said I think it's a one year down year. I don't think it's going to be a problem long term but we better keep up with Florida, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and South Carolina because they are right there with us if not a little better in recruiting. That's the biggest disappointment considering all the tools for success we have as a program. It's just 1 horrible down year accumulated from a very bad 2015 class. We bounced back in 16, and 17 but we're young. 18 is looking good too at #2 ranking.

Bama football loses tons of talent every year Doesnt matter, always in playoff

While I agree there has been a little roster mismanagement, college baseball and college football are completely different. With the limited scholarships available in baseball, injuries can absolutely kill a team. Imagine this team with a healthy Eric Walker, Josh Smith, Zach Watson(for the entire year), AJ Labas, Mikhail Hilliard, Brandt Broussard(was batting .363 before the injury), Nick Storz, etc. I know some effected this team a lot more than others but If we can have any luck with the draft this year, I expect big things out of next year's team.

Yep, the HC and Staff are solely responsible for every aspect of the program.

It's just Pumper MA BS excuses as usual. ( )

If there's a recruiting, talent or baseball fundamentals deficit/dysfunction in the program, it all falls back on the HC and Staff.

Personally, (And all my adult LSU Alum friends & associates) I see a definite complacency developing in the program currently. (Irregardless of the Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbow mentality of the nutty program worshippers)

We all saw it initiate in the football program under Miles and eventually snowball until the logical conclusion. Same scenario now with baseball. The initial phases of declination have started. ("It has Begun" from Lord of the Rings)
