Believe me, If you watched LSU football in those two decades, the Les Miles era looks pretty good.
You're trying to be logical on a board populated with people who aren't. Some are too young. Some are obsessed, and can't see the "forrest for the trees". These are fifty and sixty year old guys who don't exercise, but now "express" themselves with LSU football.

It could be worse.

The jury is still out on JJ and Shep. Both have great potential and should be stars at LSU.

It is crazy that some people on this board want to tear down everthing that Miles has done.

I guess that the same people should be on Bama's board and cussing Saban for not developing Julio Jones in to the top WR in the nation the past two years ! Did he catch more than two balls in the BCS game ?

And what about McElroys performance in the BCS Championship game ? I don't even think that he threw for a 100 yards against Texas ! What about his development ? he should be the next Namath by now for Bama or at least the next Parker Wilson.

The Tigers will be fine in Les's hands this coming season.

According to Glenn Guilbeau, Mike Davis, Justin Hunter, Jemarcus Hardrick have officially decommitted. Cassius Marsh is expected to decommit and commit to either USC or UCLA. LSU might drop from its current rank of 6 or 7 to 12. So you might check your facts before you start picking apart what I wrote.

Hardrick did not have the grades to come to LSU. They dropped him. That's a fact. They will not fall to 12 in recruiting. That's a fact. GG is a moron. That's a fact. Next.

LSU was 71-40-5 from 1980 through 1988, under Stovall, Arnsparger and Archer. Take away the Stovall years and the Tigers were 49-19-3 from '83 through '88, with two Sugar Bowls and one Orange Bowl. Hardly an embarrassment

Actually they were 70-41-5 from 80-89; 48-20-3 the 6 years after JS and the Orange Bowl game was after the '82 season, under Stovall.

1980-1989 = .612 Winning Percentage - Zero NCs
1983-1988 = .690 Winning Percentage - Zero NCs
1990-1999 = I really don't want to talk about it
2000-2004 = .746 Winning Percentage - 1 NC
2005-2009 = .776 Winning Percentage - 1 NC

I'm OK with the Hat!!

When you make the blunder that you did in the Ole Miss game and top it of by blaming the QB. His comments about he wished they could have got the ball in Sheppard's hands more. The writing is on the wall for a replacement next year if there is the same 'playground football' mistakes and excuses.

I would say he has next year to prove his worth, if he succeeds great, if he doesnt, I think he needs to go...but I do believe he should have one more year...

Also, how many of those guys he recruited over the last few years are still at LSU?
This is a failed attempt to take a swing at Miles. We are allowed to have 85 scolly players on the team to start August practice and that is exactly how many we will have. Oh and Miles recruited every one of them.

Okay ,let's do it this way:

The OP said he suffered through the 80's as well as the 90's. Obviously, we won no NC's in that time. So when looking at 5-season periods. the difference between bad and good is strictly an NC? Since games ended in ties then and don't now, a more meaningful number is losing percentage.

5 seasons 1984-1988 .217 losing percentage

5 seasons 2000-2004 .250 losing percentage

5 seasons 2005-2009 .227 losing percentage

But quibbling over percentages misses the point.
These are all close enough to be considered comparable, and the uncertain outcomes if the 3 ties had been played out clearly would require an asterisk be placed next to the .217 figure.

The purpose of my original post, in response to the OP, was simply to make clear that lumping in the entire decade of the 80's with the 90's turns a blind eye to a 5-year run that statistically was just as good as what we've enjoyed thus far in the 21st century. Those were great years for Tiger fans, and too easily forgotten or ignored by some.

Glen is just pissed because Saban isn't there to make him feel special. This guy's a joke and a Miles hater. If I remember correctly Nick "Almighty" Saban left us, not the other way around. The continuous tug job some of the fans do for him is ridiculous. While I agree that we have been down the past two years, I don't believe that we've lost all hope. So if you wanna be like Glen then go root for the bloody tampons!
