I'll spend my 3rd post on this topic. As a few posters eluded to earlier, it is always embarrassing when I see young servicemen in public exploiting military status to create their own personal celebrity. When I joined the Army 12 years ago as a young immature private, I wanted to make sure everyone knew I was a Soldier, no matter how obnoxious I had to be. It took several years for me to adopt true military values..respect, honor, integrity, etc. Once I actually adopted these values and conducted myself accordingly I no longer felt the need to let the public know "who I was" because it was evident in my demeanor. Nowadays, I command the Army recruiting station on Lee Dr where we are the face of the Army. My recruiters and I travel the community and have been to several of the LSU bars and have only been treated with the utmost respect (in and out of uniform)and could not fathom being in a verbal or physical altercation. I guess my point is that there are a$$hats everywhere regardless of their career path, or lack thereof. Lastly, as a BR native I enjoy reading all of the posts and rarely comment, but if any of you want to share a beer during football season..let me know. SFC Conerly

Yeah, but if a low-level employee's mom made stupid comments on the internet it wouldn't put a black eye on the company.

If a 4* general was on facebook talking like those moms were, then you might have a point that it makes the military look bad. What happened yesterday doesn't, any more than all of the bullshite comments on this forum reflect negatively on all of the LSU players, coaches, students, etc.

This thread is stupid, and your thoughts on this don't hold water.

Anyone that has been in the military long enough knows that actions of a very few reflect on the entire group. Some people jump to conclusions or just straight up use stereotypes. I had a woman tell me that she didn't like me just because I was in the Army. She assumed that my sole job was to go to war and kill everything around me. She didn't know that there were jobs in the military outside of straight infantry. She was surprised when I told her that I work in a hospital.

How many people on this board realize there is over 240,000 service-members in the Marine Corps? How many of you know we still, currently have Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. I've been in for over 14 years, Iraq(twice), Afghanistan(3 times), 4 Westpacs. I don't even have a facebook account. Please stop degrading the Marine Corps and other Armed Services because of the actions of a few knuckleheads.
I never thought any less of the armed forces because of Andrew Lowery or the dude that shot all those soldiers in the name of Allah or the one who threw the hand grenade in the tent....etc etc...
All walks of life have people like this.
Its part of our society and part of life.
I continue to support our brave men and women of the armed forces no matter who our president is or where they send them to war.
In the end, they are the ones that protect America, not politicians or athletes.

When I first got out of Basic/AIT, I was in the best shape of my life.

And I was correspondingly more arrogant than I'd ever been before or since.

Fortunately, I grew up.

not sure if this thread is anchored or not but the doug planchard post on JJ's wall is hilarious.

"statistics say that 9 out of 10 females have intimate affairs within 4 days of their SO's deployment. 8 out of those 9 choose doug."
