On Game Day, Desmond Howard said TM7 would have gotten his vote were it not for the probation.

Come up with the five that would go in front of him.
Just for fun:
Luck
Richardson
Keenum
Griffin
ETA: They don't always allow five to go to NYC. Just so you know. It depends upon the year.
And maybe:
Barkley
Moore
Again, not a knock on the HB

Disagree.
Top 4 games for LSU this season:
Oregon: strip and score; locked down on D
WVU: Strip and baller int
Bama: solid game
Arky: 2 FF and a punt return for TD.
So he scored two TD's in two of the four biggest games of the year. Without the off the field issues his buzz probably would not have faded like it did. Just my opinion though....

The Heisman is the Old Boy's club of College Football. Look at some of the recent winners (e.g. Troy Smith). There are schools where being really good gets you in the door (I'm looking at you Alabama, OSU, USC...). And, there are schools were you have to practically walk on water to earn the award.
The problem is that the Old Boys include ESPN. So, this becomes the Holy Grail of College Football. Every game with a "potential" winner - from an old boy school, has multiple graphics on the status of the player and his competitors, to that week. Hell, they run polls of the voters to make projections and schools run campaigns to influence voters. Scrap the whole system.

Actually Alabama didn't get in till 2009 with Ingram - that was their first.
You are right though in that it is a country club affair.
