Yeah, I knew that. But the way he said it sort of confused me.

Hence my B- grade. Probably more like a C+.

That is worthy of a B?
Kind of like "I'm not a doctor but I played one on TV?"

But maybe he stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night?

Well if I am comparing myself to the average fan then yeah. I know the difference between a 4-2-5 and a Nickel and the strengths and weakness of each and when each one is appropriate, that type of thing. I think that is somewhat better than the average fan. Plus I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express recently.

I'm around an A, which I equate to being on par with NFL positional coaches

Compared to the average rantardo, I'm an A++. Compared to those who really know the game I'm at best a B-.

Someone should come up with a multiple choice test that assesses knowledge of history, teams, formations, rules, and general terminology that pertains to specific drills and tactics ("swim move").

That would be cool, but I don't know enough.

Ya, I smiled when the ref explained it the way he did since its the unsaid part of the rule, if you have 7 on the line, then you necessarily have 4 in the backfield.

I would have graded myself pretty highly since I played from 5 until college until I lived with my roommate who played college ball. There is a whole lot more to defensive coverages (which I knew, but I learned some more depth) than "nickel, dime, etc" that some fans put too much stock in that they know what they are talking about.

If I recall correctly this was a play where one of our WRs (Beckham I believe) lined up, but wasn't far enough up to the line or scrimmage. He looked out to the line judge who must have told him to move up, because he did, and then checked again to make sure he was ok. The official on the opposite side of the formation threw the flag, but was overruled by the line judge because he must have told Beckham he was ok after he adjusted his alignment the first time.

I saw this happen pre-snap and was pretty furious about the flag before they called the penalty off.

Yea, I was a little confused, like I said.

Exactly, there is a big difference between comparing your knowledge the average fan and between someone who has played football at the college level.

I give myself a B or B +.

Other opinions of me probably vary widely.

Yes.
Madden, X-Box, PS games are not real football. They are freaking toys.

Played a bit of college ball myself. Still don't know it all. However, I enjoy the hell out of the college game.

OH MY GOD. true ranter speak

I don't play video games much and I haven't played a football video game in several years, but when I use to play NCAA I did get some understanding of the game from it so his comment isn't really THAT far fetched.
