I just trying to see how individual posters grade their own football knowledge.

Personally, I can't get into a discussion about the details of the X's & O's, but I would rate my general IQ of the game a B+.

How does the average ranter grade themselves?

Compared to what? A+ being a NFL Head Coach and F being a dumb rantard?

Or compared to other fans with no upper level coaching or playing experience?

B-

For example, LSU wasn't penalized for an illegal formation against Mississippi State because they had 4 men in the backfield.

Didn't really understand why.

I'd go with an B+....I know the rules of the game well and also am very familiar with the teams's strengths including players, etc...I would say my weakpoint would be knowldege of individual play schemes, etc.....

My strong point, I think, is the game beyond the X's & O's. For example, I think I have a pretty good understanding of a team's chemistry in terms of situation.. If that makes sense.

The funny thing is that those of you who are giving a realistic assessment are some of the more knowledgeable posters on the board.. Which is kind of what I expected.

Offense must have 7 men on the line of scrimmage ... oh, and I'd rate myself a B+.

I'd say B. I know all the rules, formations, strategies, but having never played a single down of organized football I do not know that much at appropriate techniques for individual positions and everything I know of X and O's comes from 20+ years of video game experience and watching NFL Matchup on Sunday mornings.

I'll give myself an A-. First of all that was most lonely a make up call trying to be made up for the personal foul they called on the corner that hit randal. Bit I knowledge is pretty good I recognize both offensive and defensive schemes. I understand when to run when to pass when to blitz when to play man or zone. I am interested in recruiting. My downfalls are that I sometimes judge games with a biased opinion.

If I recall correctly this was a play where one of our WRs (Beckham I believe) lined up, but wasn't far enough up to the line or scrimmage. He looked out to the line judge who must have told him to move up, because he did, and then checked again to make sure he was ok. The official on the opposite side of the formation threw the flag, but was overruled by the line judge because he must have told Beckham he was ok after he adjusted his alignment the first time.

I saw this happen pre-snap and was pretty furious about the flag before they called the penalty off.

It sounds silly but playing Madden for many years, you learn about how to exploit certain defensive schemes. Such as what routes to run against man or zone, how to recognize a cover two and what play to to call against it, etc.

That is worthy of a B?
Kind of like "I'm not a doctor but I played one on TV?"

I like you don't get into x and o but I'm pretty good with the rules. My dad is a referee so what I don't know I can usually find out in a minute or two. B+ a- for me
