Quarterback
Situation Quarterback (running plays)
special teams
red shirt
all purpose (like Macklin from Mizzou or Harvin from FLA
or
a little bit of everything

This all depends on the progression of his passing and the other players on the depth chart and how they progress. But, I look at Russell Shepard to be an all purpose player and play a little Quarterback, especially late in games and early in the season. We all know what it is like to play a quarterback a little too early (Lee, Hatch, JJ). I think by getting Sheppard on the field this will help him to get used to the game. I look for Shepard to take a full time QB position by about his mid Sophomore season. I cant wait to see a guy of Shepard's caliber get on the field for every down.

I seriously doubt that SHEP is going to play special teams

what has JJ done that is so bad! did he fumble r throw interceptions, no he made positive runs and threw a few good balls. was he magnificent, no, but he didnt lose us any games!!

He is not MJ yet, but the guy can play football. Why not a little Special Teams his freshman year.

We will incorporate SHEPARD in many different schemes to get him the ball.

Put him in the wild tiger, use him with the option, create some trickery with him and jefferson on the field at teh same time.

RS will be catching TD passes from JL.

RS will be making tackles when JL throw his INT's. we need a speedy guy for that role.

He will be used in a Percy Harvin type roll, with some plays at QB.

I can't see LSU using a true freshman QB unless that is the only alternative.

Based on what I've seen this season, I expect the battle for the top QB slot to be between JL and JJ, w/ a decent edge to JL.

I expect JL to win the battle. I believe that JJ will play and that RS will play. Most of RS high school highlights are running plays. That would be easy to incorporate. JJ on the other hand is likely to be the true backup.

JL got the experience this year that will pay huge dividends in future years. Why would anyone want to throw that away to start a true freshman?

What I know for sure is that I don't know and that regardless of what you or I think, LM and GC will make this decision. And for the record LM and GC want as many qualified choices as possible.

So he will either start or not play at all?

I think he may play some. They may design some plays just for him. I'm just guessing as is everyone else.

I believe JL will be the QB.

They may? So I guess when Shep says that he has already talked to Crowton about how they would use him and that he would play early, Crowton was lying to him or Shep was lying about it?
