How much worse off was men’s program compared to what Mulkey took over on women’s side?

Can't compare. There are 3-4 teams that can compete in all of women's bball. There are 3-4 teams in just the SEC alone usually, in men's.
Also, Mulkey is in the absolute top tier of coaches in women's basketball. Her name coming to LSU alone will bring instant success. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

Not even comparable, Mulkey is a legend and girls want to play for her ( look at the players she has/signed and the class coming in this coming year ), even though the program wasn't in a good place. No way you were getting a marquee name to take the men's job at LSU ( nor get marquee players to come to LSU ), under the circumstances, so this is where they are at.

Can’t compare. We were lucky in that Mulkey is from Tickfaw 50 miles away. She also is at a point in life where she wanted to come home and all it really took was to ask because they aren’t really paying her anymore than she got at Baylor and she never gave Baylor a opportunity to up her salary. The women team while being down wasn’t staring down potential probation. No comparable mens coach you lure here that was similar

The Ladies team was not under looming threat of NCAA penalties. The Men's team is. Apples and oranges.

Each program going in different directions.

If the previous coach had stayed, women's basketball would have been middle of the pack, or lower, in the SEC. In walks Kim and we're in upper tier immediately.
