I'm no expert here, but everything's speculation right now.

I wonder if Curiel is in play... let's not forget that he is just a sophomore (yes I know, draft eligible), so he doesn't "lose leverage" by returning. And I wonder if he accomplished what he wanted to this past year, as we were all hoping to see a jump in power. Maybe he's the one that convinced Milam to run it back this upcoming season. We'll see.

Despite all the posts by the T-Rant know it alls, no one on this site knows anything about if or how Milam staying is going to impact any other players decision to stay or leave!

I don’t know, because I don’t know Milam, if he has a girlfriend, if getting a degree is important to him, etc…Like I don’t know Brown and Curiel. But common sense tells me that Brown and Curiel are even more likely to leave now that Milam is coming back. That’s a huge chunk of NIL change that Milam is getting that is now not available to Brown and Curiel. They’re gone. Unless something unexpected happens between now and the draft that lowers their stock. But they’re gone.

See, I'm reading things the exact opposite... this tells me that the wallet is open.

I know we all love LSU and that Jay has won 2 titles, but we were 9-21 in conference last year. Something had to convince the Florida kid to come here and drop out of the draft, and pull the kid from Notre Dame, and get Milam to return for his senior year.
I don't think Milam coming back was the centerpiece. I feel like they're pushing for Curiel hard, and HE'S the guy people want to play with.

And again, Curiel doesn't lose leverage with MLB coming back this year; this year his leverage is with the NIL guys. "Make it worth my while to play that 3rd year". You pay him, and surround him with talent, and I think it's possible.
And with LSU having such a bad season, I could see the money guys reacting to correct that.

It's all conjecture at this point.

Undoubtedly.

I wonder if Curiel is in play

This seems unlikely, given the amount of money he would be walking away from. What if he runs into a wall or another outfielder and seriously injures himself? What if he has a disappointing season? In general, is it more likely that he improves his draft stock, remains the same, or drops?

The whole risk/reward thing. Still, it is possible. If he is smart, and I think he is, he will not give a definitive answer to the question until after he negotiates his signing bonus. That is how you take full advantage of your leverage.

You are assuming that if Curiel came back, it would even be all about how much money he gets to come back. Sure, he'd be compensated to some degree, but LSU isn't going to outbid MLB for him, just like they didn't outbid MLB to get Schmidt on campus. It comes down to whether or not Curiel has an itch to come back and finish on a higher note, for one, and perhaps improve his power and be a top ten pick next year. Some have him rated as high as mid first round pick right now, but I'm not sure he goes that high, at all. I would guess he would not take his name out of the draft, and actually wait and see where he goes, if he's actually giving any consideration to coming back.

And I don't know anything about where his head is on any of that. But IF he came back, he'd be betting on himself, rather than it just being about LSU paying him a huge sum of money. You already assured me that Milam wasn't coming back when you and I had a conversation weeks ago. Don't be so sure you know what every player is thinking. I get saying "not likely", but speaking in absolutes as if there is no rationale for a player to return is not something I agree with.
