Chavis was not all that good IMO LSU talent saved him a lot of times. Chavis defenses of last few years never got big sacks to create big plays against big opponents. You better be glad he gone

Look, we are a ball control, running team that eats up clock. If the defense can't get off the field and can't get stops at the end of games we lose. Chavis did great in some games where his defense mattered. SIX times in SIX years his defense came through and won the game without the offense doing a whole lot (scoring over 20).

TWELVE times, his defense crapped the bed in games where they only had to get a stop at the end.

He is a very good coach, but completely replaceable.

If you are going to blame Miles for everything, why give a pass to the DC who rarely came through with a stop when it mattered?

Its a two way street. If the offense keeps the ball on the field longer then the D gets more rest.. Look at the three and outs the offense has had over the years that could have been game clinchers....

Did you not consider giving credit for:
Georgia 2009
Vandy 2010 (ok we never would have lost this game but offense was dreadful)
Alabama 2010
S Car 2012

On the opposite side defense was bad in Ole Miss 2010 and 2012 and State 2010 despite wins.

Edit: should also mention very near miss vs Texas A&M 2014.

Beat Alabama 9-6. Chavis gets credit.
Lost to Alabama 21-0. Not Chavis' fault.

1-0
Every single win that season is a credit to Chavis.

We averaged almost 40 ppg that year. The defense was great, but it was not winning all of our games for us.

Correct... The more clock we eat the less the D is on the field...........

Okay, Georgia in 2009. I'll give you that. Offense scored 20 points, though.

SCAR 2012? No. They scored at the end to make it close. Same with A&M in 2014.

I see your point and they're all valid...I just don't know why you bring this up now and not while he was still employed here?

He's gone. It's over. Move on.

Steele is our DC and that's all that matters.

What an analysis and who cares, he is not here now. We averaged 40 points that year. How many of those were set up by short fields or actually scored by the D and STs. Revisionists history at its finest.

Best of luck to Kevin Steele

When the HC has a philosophy to shorten games and win in the 4th quarter and your DC has a tendency to blow games in the waning seconds, something needs to change.

Because I wasn't doing a retrospective on his time here. I kept hoping we would just win games. I didn't care how we did it.

The CW since he left is that Chavis won all of LSU's games for us.

I agree. It comes across as butthurt and insecure to try and convince us that Chavis wasn't as good as we thought he was. Fact is, he went on to what he thinks are greener pastures and for more money. Can't blame a guy for that. We're all good with Steele and O. Let's just take the high road and kick his arse on the field next time we meet. That'll be all of the analysis needed.

As far as I'm concerned he's texas a&ms problem now. Don't worry it won't take them long to figure out 3rd and Chavis.

Is this the new position we're taking? That LSU's problems have been with the defense?

My position is while chavis has def been the best DC under miles, I don't think he deserves all the credit, like some fans want to give him. If he gets credit, he should shoulder the blame. I actually give all the credit and blame to the head coach. He has the final say in the players they recruit and the coaches they hire.

People say chavis saved Miles job. well he hired the guy, so miles saved his own job by hiring a good DC.

See this is what I'm talking about. Forget about the head coach that offers the scholarships and hires the coaches. He had nothing to do with it.
