No one thinks of basketball when you hear the name LSU.
Ever hear of a guy name Pistol Pete Maravich...all time NCAA scorer? Maybe Shaquille O'Neal...one of the most dominant centers of all time and a media icon? Bob Petit? Chris Jackson?

Very few I'm sure. I said this before, and I'll say it again 10 CWS titles might equal 1 Basketball title from a national publicity standpoint. It's great that we have such a good baseball program but like many here have said it is of little national relevance compared to football and to a slightly lesser extent basketball. I would trade five or our 6 CWS titles easily for one in basketball. I'm also a much bigger fan of basketball than baseball, so I may not be a good judge.
Really? FIVE of our six for just ONE basketball title? Really?
You are an absolute moron...sorry...I normally dont resort to namecalling. But really? 5 for 1? Why? People will really think LSU is a good/great basketball program? People will respect LSU more? what? No one will think anything about LSU as far as basketball with only 1 title. Now if you said 3 or 4 i could understand...but ONE? You're just an idiot for saying just one. And no...it doesnt matter if it's just an opinion..you're still an idiot.

sure have but they didnt win the big one which makes the program less known. Winning championships get a program recgonized and they didnt. shite I love shaq but he doesnt make lsu a basketball school.

All but 2. I'm one of the few that believe LSU has great basketball tradition with having some of the best players to ever play college basketball. In my eyes college basketball is on a whole other level than college baseball. Let's be real, the best players coming out of HS don't even make it on a college campus, they go to the pro team that drafted them. Honestly I would be happy with just another final four appearance since it's the next best thing kinda of similar to a CWS appearance in Omaha. Things may be different in LSU country but I agree with the rest of the nation, that college basketball is bigger(not necessarily better) than college baseball. Good hypothetical question by the OP.

it's much easier to lose a baseball game than a basketball game... every year LSU loses 8-10 SEC games and a few to state schools
in the NCAA tournament they've lost to such luminaries as UL Lafayette, East Carolina, played a one-run game with Southern, and were an out away from getting eliminated by UC-Irvine

I would not trade one single NC for another NC.
Because it would deminish the hard work and accomplishments of all the young men and women that participated in winning that NC.
Now, Basketball will win an NC when all the cards are stacked, delt and their hand played the way it takes for them to win the hand delt.
There is a lot of hard work and comittment that goes into winning an NC and when all the Coaches and players of the Basketball team Coaches as a team and the players play as a team and puts in all the hard work as a team and puts in the comittment as a team it takes to win a NC they will win an NC.

I'm very happy with the success LSU has had in baseball. You cannot deny that the success of that one program being able to justify and provide one of the greatest sport arenas in modern history, the new Alex Box, is anything less than phenomenal. Not to mention the dominance of any program to bring home 6 national titles in 2 decades is huge for your college's athletic program.
But here's the facts. College baseball outside of Louisiana is a blip on the radar of sports. Nobody covers it to any degree because there's too many games; and baseball as a game has eclipsed the attention span of most Americans. Whether anyone likes it or not, college basketball is huge in the money and exposure it makes for a school.
Whenever College Gameday has a baseball version like it does for football and basketball, that's when you know it's arrived. Until then, if LSU won the NC in baseball every year from 1991-2009, it would still not equal the coverage we'd receive from one basketball championship whatsoever.

I tallied the votes up
41 ZERO's
2-3 dumbasses said all of them
4-5 said 1
couple more said 2-3 or 4
seems to be alot of racists in this thread.
41 to be exact.

nice job of pointing out that a large # of fans can't see outside of their little box and don't see what a Basketball title brings.

wow.. really? so LSU would be remembered more today for 1 basketball title it won in 1991 than it would if it had won the last 20 baseball titles.. really?

it is gaining coverage every year.. and baseball as a game is the second most popular sport in the world..

we should tell this to all those schools building stadiums across the country.. or the Mississippi schools, and the schools/fans in Florida, Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, California, Nebraska, Oregon, Arizona and so on...
ill say it again, sorry that the basketball team was so fricking terrible this year.. doesnt mean you numb nuts have to spew hate at the baseball team for being the most successful, and 2nd most popular program at LSU..

what does it bring? i mean, it would bring me joy.. it would bring LSU publicity for a while.. what beyond that?

Spew hate? I was in Omaha last year and loved every min. of it. I go to games.
Publicity = $$, better recruits, more national exposure on t.v....example...Syracuse w/ Boehiem...has 1 national title..and people still talk about it..and Syracuse is still a power house.
Hell...they still bring up LSU as a final 4 team from a few years ago..that final 4 still gives us a little credit...I couldn't imagine how they would talk about LSU on national t.v. through out the year if we became consistent threat. Look at Gonzaga..they still haven't made a final 4 and they still get a ton of coverage which = money/excitement...on and on.
you think Gonzaga would trade their exposure for 6 baseball national titles? No..it doesn't bring nearly the $$$ or recognition
Their little box meaning they can't see the big picture....it's a pretty common term.
