The 2014 LSU class is ranked 9th on the perfect game website. It isn't clear which signees they considered.
If they ranked us 9th with Marshall, Byrd and Godfrey, then that class is definitely outside the top 20 without them. I'm all in on the Valek pain train, but he doesn't offset those losses.
Bottom line, we must recruit better. I'm not optimistic if we lose the TOPS benefit.

We recruited a number 1 class. You should say that we need to retain better if you're going to use that year as an example.

Sure, if you were to re-rank the classes based off of current results then we wouldn't be towards the top. But you can't retroactively change the results of a signing class to justify your argument. If he sign a guy and he makes it to campus it counts recruiting-wise.
At the time I remember that we were #1/#2 in every ranking.
It happens to other teams too. 2013 Vandy won the SEC, #2 Overall seed. Didn't make it to Omaha.
A little off topic but I saw someone in another thread bitching about how other teams don't have "rebuilding years" like we do. Florida 2013 and 2014 didn't make it out of the regional. Any team replacing this many players is going to struggle.

I found this Perfect Game article in October 2014 that had LSUs class ranked 5th. The ranking was released after the Marshall transfer.
