Well Miles got 10 years, so 10 years.

quote:it's not about winning another NC, but we do need to keep this train rolling and be in the mix for the playoffs most year. So it's a fair question.
How long can Coach O go without another title before he too starts to feel the heat? 3 years? 5 years? 10 years? Longer?
Gene Chizik won the NC in 2010 and was fired 2 years later.
Larry Coker won the NC in 2001 and was fired 5 years later.
And good ole Leslie won the NC in 2007 and played for another in 2011, and was fired 5 years later (a couple years too late, in my opinion).
It can happen. Got to keep recruiting at an elite level and bring in the right coordinators. The next couple years will be interesting, with a ton of roster and coaching staff turnover.
O pushed all the right buttons last year, but he's got a whole new set of buttons to push next year. I give him full credit and hope he keeps making good moves, but it will be interesting to see.

And he went 8-5 the next year. If O does that the heat will definitely be turned up right away
quote:you honestly think that 8-5 next year and there's no heat on O?? Seriously??
You are insane.
Look, O pushed all the right buttons last year, with Burrow and Brady. But they're both gone - and Aranda too.
If O can keep up playing at an elite level (no one expects back-to-back NCs), then we'll all know it wasn't just Burrow and Brady.

After these next two 4 loss seasons coming up, I think he’s on the hot seat and fired within 5 years

Why on earth are you bringing up this topic now. Spring practice has not even started.
LSU is 6 to 1 to win the 2020 CFP. That is fourth or fifth in the odds.
There is a national media column describing how Orgeron outsmarted everyone.
ADs, boosters and college presidents all over are now asking their coaches.. why can’t you do what LSU has done? So the competition will get tougher. For example if Kirby Smart would get someone to fix the offense the game would change.
Kiffin and Leach are going to get everyone’s attention in the west. They will not be winning the conference.. but they will step up and beat people they are not supposed to.
This year and last years recruiting classes keep the talent level way up. Get Williams or Nussmier in the next recruiting class and this is sustainable for a long time. The whole Program trajectory has changed.
The SEC TV contract revenue goes up significantly in a couple of years.
Texas Am and Georgia, at least, have far more resources financially than LSU does.. so there will be a facilities issue eventually. Not now.

CLM won in 2007 (although some say he did it with "Saban's players") but he still had the heat turned up on his job security 5-7 years later (probably beginning with 1/9/12). Granted CLM was in a different situation given that people argued that he refused to change the offense to the team's detriment. How long can Coach O go without another title before he too starts to feel the heat? 3 years? 5 years? 10 years? Longer?
As long as O does these few things, he'll have a job in BR.
* Recruit
* Make adjustments & keep good staff
* Win games he's supposed to
* Keep LSU in Playoff discussion
* Stay away from Controversy
So far, he's done all of this

My guess is he’s got the recipe that he knows works and he ain’t done
He will continue getting elite coaches on staff and recruiting will only get better as he earns credibility as a head coach
I agree but, even if he does all that, he must attract talented quarterbacks. The weakest team in the playoffs had the most ineffective passing quarterback. I don’t think teams can win with “game managers” anymore.

The one Ed O just won isn't going to be his last. As Ed O is an astronomically far better head coach than Les Miles ever was.

He's lost 9 games in the last 40 he's coached and is bringing in just as good or better talent. He will probably coach another 10 years which is about the shelf life of a coach. He might not win another national title but he will keep it around 9-10 wins a year and win the SEC again. That's a HOF career to most coaches.

I’d say he earned 4 years. We all know how quickly Tiger fans can turn on a coach.

3 or 4 years.... Les Miles knows.

You're going to be disappointed, Gump.

I think orgeron is a competitive guy... and he wants to go down as one of the best coaches in LSU history... he isnt done just yet.. i think the next 2-3 seasons hes really gonna bust his arse to win another one, just my two cents..

Ya, come at me with that crap. Look who the major contributors were on offense. That's O. Anyone who thinks different needs to relinquish their LSU man card.

If the wheels fall off, 5 years. If we continue to win but never win another championship, 10.
