It really depends on how he feels. That "I'm to old for this shite" is different for everyone.

I hope your right but it’s still just weird how much hate O gets on this board. Kelly has never won a meaningful post season game in his life. Coach O has the best national championship team in the history of football and y’all give him zero credit. The verdict is still out on Kelly. He needs to start getting us to the playoffs before we give him an extension lol. His excuse for not winning big games was Notre dame wasn’t good enough. Well Notre Dame has better Vegas odds of making it to the cfp this year so what am I missing?

Whether explicitly stated or not, he left ND because he wants to win a National Championship. In this era of college football it has been proven, multiple times, by multiple coaches, a national championship can be won at LSU. That's not true of ND. Kelly will turn 63 during the season. If/when he wins a championship I suspect he will start thinking about retirement soon after because he will have accomplished everything he could accomplish in his profession. He's a guy who spent a LONG time in the pre-NIL/pre-freedom of transfer era. Those guys haven't adjusted well to the current era. BK is willing to keep navigating it for now because he wants a title. Once he gets it, he's likely gone.

Saban abruptly left because he was tired of the new era. There are multiple coaches who have voiced being a HC in this era of CFB may not be worth the headache. Hell, Jim Harbaugh won a championship and immediately left for the NFL. The reason is because a pro-job provides a better lifestyle. Yes, the competition is tougher and it is harder to win a championship. But a pro coach doesn't have to recruit 27/7/365. He's not perpetually being leveraged by 18, 19, 20 year olds (and their cast of "hanger-on's") for more money who can literally leave the team at any moment without penalty.

Depending on how old he is if he wins a championship BK may stay for one more year to see if he can repeat. If not, he'll happily move into retirement and leave the headache of being HC in today's college football world to someone else.

I think it all depends on if he wins a title or not. If he wins one, I think 5 years is about right. If he doesn't, I think 8 years is his max.

Dude O gets the right amount of shite. He absolutely should get credit for the work he did, but he gave up after. That’s what makes the best coaches and athletes different from everyone else. The coaches and athletes that don’t need to be motivated to perform their best, they have built consistency through habits their whole life, they wake up and live to get better. Saban, Phelps, Brady etc woke up wanting to be better everyday. O woke up after the national championship wanting to cash in with blondes.

There is one notable exception - Michael Jordan, but he found a way to self-motivate by taking offense to literally anything anyone ever did, convincing himself they were talking shite about him.

O was a motivator. I don’t believe he “gave up”, I just don’t think he could figure it out. He lost his staff, all his players and went through a global pandemic. And yes he had some crazy personal drama that wasn’t helping. So I don’t feel bad for the guy or think we should’ve kept him. But to say he was just a lucky idiot is shortsighted.

5 years tops . Depending on how much success he has . Worst case scenario is multiple years of 9 or 10 wins but no playoff or nattys. Which is the story of his career so far .

We know this is his last stop. He wants to win National Championships. I wouldn’t count out the possibility that he wants to get to 400 wins maybe surpass Joa Pa at 409?

8+ more years?

O gave up when Woody started making coaching hires. Pellini!
No one will will ever convince me that a DC who helped us to a National Championship in O8, would forget how to coach defense.

Still gotta have the jimmies and joes.

Ya know, it's pretty crazy to really think about. Aranda went from being the best DC, to being a terrible HC, to possibly not even in college football if his defense continues to regress.
