Considering that we just won the NC, I consider this year to be a complete "whatever". And as such, I am willing to give Coach O. a lot of time if it was up to me.

Next year the rebuild begins in earnest and MUST exceed this season.

2022, we must be winning the SEC West or there better had be a truly great team we're competing with for it.

2023, SECC or NC or bust.

What say you?

ETA: I realize that may seem harsh but would love to hear if you give him a much longer leash and why.

I don’t think he should get a pass this year but expectations were way to high.

If the team shows significant improvement (even in loses) he should be okay. But if the defense continues to suck his seat will get hot real fast.

Dude...he won a national championship. With the new playoff system, big programs need to make it into the playoffs once every 5 years otherwise their coaches seats will get really hot. Winning an NC buys you a little extra time, but so long as we are playing in a playoff game or near miss once every 5 years, the reality is that he won't get fired ... not should he be.

This year doesn't count... that's the way I'm looking at it now.

No spring practice
Opt outs
etc....

That's what I'm feeling too. I can't fault any head coach out there right now for it just due to unforseen stuff.

Coach O deserves at least 3 more yrs .He will need to make some changes on his staff ..Pelini bye bye ... and new OC as well. While Burrow was the reason LSU won last yr , cant justifiably cut him loose even if we go 3-7 . Hes earned 3 yrs minimum ..plus his wife is box

there are simply no excuses for the product that has been put on the field thus far. you get a pass for a drop off the season after winning the natty, after losing a ridiculous amount of players and multiple coaches. however, you don’t get a pass when you look this bad and lose to poo state and fricking mizzou. team is absolutely loaded with talent

I mean, his team finished #6 in 2018 and had the best season of all time in 2019, so he deserves some patience. Obviously, if the D doesn't improve as the season goes on, he will need to make a change or get the D fixed one way or the other. It's ok to have an off year, but you can't let the bottom fall out. It is a weird year and he lost a boatload of talent to the NFL and to COVID though. Still, the D shouldn't look that bad.

This 100%. Getting exposed against Miss St, saying we'll get it fixed, and then having multiple TD's against Mizzou go uncontested is different than dropping a couple of close ones with an inexperienced, depleted team.

shite i wouldn’t even mind getting beat soundly a couple times by better teams, but getting blatantly out coached by bottom feeders is alarming

It’s not how much time Coach O has. It’s what improvements he makes after this season is completed.

Does Pelini’s defensive philosophy scare away top recruits ?

Do the players we have now on defense trust Pelini and O to improve their future NFL value ?

Does O part ways with Pelini and start over ?

If recruiting becomes an emergency, then it’s code red alert and major changes are critical !

After this season is completed, the clock starts and if recruiting is top 8, then O gets three seasons to get to SEC dominance.

If the roof caves in, major overhaul needed at the end of 2022.

I hear he has his eye on a promising up and coming DC named John Chavis.
