A&M loses in both of these. Thanks for mentioning this

In 2006 LSU was where aTm is today .... any major bowl was a HUGE draw.

Things have changed a little bit and I do not think it's crazy in any way to say that aTm is more of sure thing than LSU... not to say LSU is a bad choice... but the original question was "How likely is it that TA&M jumps LSU for a BCS spot? -----

My opinion is that if we are one spot apart, neither being SEC Champion --- the bow would choose aTm this year. As noted, that's my opinion and I stand firm on it... they are rabid about their team, their entry to the SEC and Johnny Football --- and they outnumber almost any SEC fan base... these are simple facts, hard as they may be to accept --- the Aggie Cult is pretty strong man... it just is.

Huh? LSU had won the SEC twice by 2006, one national title, and 2 Sugar Bowls.

Highly likely in my opinion... big $$ and pent up fan excitement trumps LSU's head to head victory.

Opinion - yes, but a logical opinion none-the-less.

You are completely confused.

We won the Sugar Bowl in 2002 and 2003. In 2003 that was a national championship.

We went to good bowls in 2004 and 2005 and went to the Sugar bowl in 2006 and destroyed ND and then back to the national championship in 2007.

Thats laughable if you think aTm is even in the same galaxy this year as LSU was in 2006.

This is not fact. That is another opinion.

It'll certainly be close, but in the end the Fiesta will make the right choice. They will take the more premier, national team in LSU that is ranked higher and won the head-to-head.

Of course, the A&M-LSU debate won't matter, because IMO LSU will finish #4 and be automatic to the Fiesta/Rose. And A&M will play Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

You are mis-interpreting my statements -- the fact is we lost the Captial One bowl after the 2004 season -- Sabans last game... it was not overwhelmingly attended by LSU fans. In 2005 we lost the SEC championship and dropped to the Chick-fil-a bowl --- it was not overwhelmingly attended becasue we had just played UGA in the championship in Atlanta.... in 2006 we played a very overrated ND team in the Sugar Bowl -- any NOLA bowl for LSU is well attended, but doesn't necessarily generate the tourism money that a well-travelled out of State program does.

The BCSCG in 2007 was huge for LSU - no argument at all there.

As for the size of the fan base TEXAS >>>>> larger than Louisiana ---- aTm >>>>>> larger than LSU --- yields, aTm has a much larger fan base - not really arguable --- opinion, yes, but a solid fact-based one as previously pointed out.

No need to keep arguing --- it's all opinion -- we seem to differ. I've supported mine -- you are free to disagree, that doesn't bother me at all.

Relax Nancy, this is just banter/ribbing on a message board, we aren't about to fight or anything.

What I am curious about, is how in the heck you think aTm today is even remotely close to LSU in 2006?

You're talking about us like we are a program like Oklahoma state last year. We don't get left out like that.

yes, but wasn't that going to be a matchup with USC?

This doesn't make any difference. If LSU had a Rose Bowl bid, it would sell out just as fast if we were going to play ND or Nebraska.

Yeah, no BCS bowl is voluntarily passing on a Top5 LSU team once Notre Dame is off the board.

A&M is in the discussion, certainly, but at the end of the day LSU will get the nod.

I think it was.

LSU fans, me included, want to go somewhere we haven't ever been or haven't been in a long time. Rose and Fiesta easily top the list. Cap One or Cotton and I'm not going, I've been to Jerryworld twice and went to the Cap One when we lost to Iowa (my last game as a student). I hope the bowl selection committees realize this and choose LSU accordingly.

On BCS show last night the expert on BCS said A & M Would go to Fiesta Bowl over us. Geographically it makes more sense and Johnny Manziel is a big reason why and TEXAS FANS will travel more than LSU, GEORGIA & a few other choices. Just think LSU should play them again, but you can't have two from same conference play each other. But 2011 BCS made a Bidg Exception allowing BAMA back in to NC. right?

Yeah, but the postseason requests were due way before anyone knew who we'd playing in the Rose Bowl (and before anyone knew we'd even have a legitimate chance to play in the Rose Bowl). Actually, at the time requests were due, most people would have had USC penciled into the national title game (before losing the final regular season game vs UCLA)

Pent up fan demand -- LSU had tasted success but still had a lot of pent up fan demand --

I am NOT suggesting that aTm today has won any championships, etc. --- simply that they have a big bowl starved fan base.

LSU was there up to 2003 - and stayed there following 2004 (Cap One) and 2005 (Chick-fil-a) -- a BCS bowl was a huge draw for LSU fans at that point -- championship or not.

Today, while it's big for LSU, it's not as big as it is for aTm who has not been to a BCS bowl is a long time (if ever) -- the last "Major" bow they had might have been the Sugar --- and it was around 1999/2000 I believe --- that's 10+ years of pent up demand in my view.

Just Edwards's opinion. He has been wrong more than a few times in the past.

Not to mention, he graduated from Bama, so he's probably giving A&M too much "pop" right now...once the dust settles and emotions subside, everyone will realize that the Fiesta is going to take LSU.

Very very little chance the Fiesta passes on #5 LSU.

Ok well CBS has us over aTm. None of the predictions matter at this point, because they are exactly that. Predictions.

This, and also you are downplaying LSU's hunger for a BCS bowl game. Let's not forget our last BCS victory was 2006 and 2007. Don't think our fan base isn't hungry for a BCS victory, especially after the way last year ended.
