I haven't followed them that much. I know they have a player or two to look out for on the front 7, but do they have any legit horses in the back 4 anymore?

Janzen Jackson is at McNeese now, so PW is the only star player I can name.

The correct answer is, "already roasted."

If they're anything like last year, they'll be executing a 4-3-6 defense to perfection.

The secondary is below average. Wagner is OK, but hasn't really done anything yet this year...but he's still the best DB on the team. Teague is a converted WR that should have stayed there. He bites on double fakes and has/will get burnt. Brewer Evans, and Lanier are average at best. Justin Coleman has played some, but is a true freshman who has also been toasted on deep balls.

So to answer your question, not very good w/o Janzen.

Tennessee played almost all zero coverage against UGA. The safeties are both pretty good against the run and Waggner has a nose for the ball if he's playing center field. The corners are below average and not physical enough. Eric Gordon is a feisty nickleback who has really played well of late, especially against the run.

The secondary has very little experience outside of Waggner and Teague, who is mediocre at best.

Abysmal.

They only returned two starters in the entire defense.

Prolly be much better if O could run the ball.
They held Murray et al to 2nd lowest pass O of year at 227yds and lowest scoring at 20pts.

#34, 204ypg pass D.
#56, 140ypg rush D.
#33, Total D.

The defense is far better than it was last year.

And it's getting off topic, but your defense is better despite the loss of Jackson- this is because your front 7 are better, correct?

Your secondary is, thus far, no better than average for the conference.

Correct. The secondary without Janzen is worse. The front four is playing better and the linebackers are much more talented. Without Janzen, our two best defensive players are our two true freshman outside linebackers (AJ Johnson and Curt Maggitt). Lathers should be back soon as well to play middle.

The main problem so far this year has been blown assignments which have led to big plays. The defense will play very good for 9 plays, but then a 60 yard pass will break us on the tenth. Janzen kept almost everything in front of him last year, we don't have anyone to do that this year.

Statistically. Welcome to the meat of your schedule. No more Buffalo or Montana.

The front 7 is by no means great. The outside LB's are true freshmen and have been terrible at containing outside runs.

The secondary has been abysmal, in my opinion. The corners consistently get beat and the safeties are rarely rolling over to help for whatever reason (could be part of the scheme, I don't know).

Throughout the season several of us Tennessee fans have been waiting for things to "click" for some of the new starters. At this point, the wait is over. It looks like it won't happen this year.

Tennessee has played almost all zero coverage. The safeties are in the box almost every play.
