I find the idea of having a mobile QB next year very exciting. However, sometimes I ask the question, "is having a mobile QB really all its cracked up to be?" Sure, every once in a while you have Cam Newton type of guys that just make it look easy. But for every one of these incredible dual threat guys, there are tons of mediocre to bad ones that are far from impressive. Just look at LSU this year, Mett is slow as Christmas and it is one of the better offenses that we have had.
Thoughts?
Oh and just FTR, mobile and dual threat= code words for Black.

Important if he cant throw the ball, the oline sucks, and there are no playmakers.

Not important if he can throw the ball, his oline is awesome, and he is surrounded by playmakers

We are just a competent Oline away this year

Mobile QB to me is someone that can avoid the rush. Mett can't avoid the rush. We need a QB that can pass well but also avoid the rush and scramble out of negative yardage situations. It is VERY important. Matt Mauck was perfect example. We need someone w that skill set.

He also ran the option in high school and his offense barely threw the ball. Brees moves around the pocket to buy time. He is good at it. The NFL isn't like college. Running QBs don't last long in the NFL and are always getting hurt. Sucks when you have that much money invested in a guy who is taking hits like a running back. In college you can get way with being a decent passer if you are a good runner like Vince young and Tebow. Long term they better fine tune their pocket passing skills for NFL success over the long term.

A mobile QB = does not equal DT

Andrew Luck is a mobile QB
Andy Dalton is a mobile QB
Aaron Rodgers is a mobile QB
Ben Roethlisberger is a mobile QB

A lot of teams have poor offensive lines so a guy that can escape is key. Matt Flynn was a mobile QB for LSU. I'm pretty sure that Jennings will be more mobile than DT.

Manning isn't mobile. Drew is one of the best QBs at being mobile in the pocket and he can get you 5yds if necessary.

Having a mobile quarterback would be nice, having a "Jordan Jefferson" isn't though.

I'd take Mett in a foot race over Peyton any day.

Look how many pocket passers have won the Super Bowl as opposed to mobile quarterbacks; Pocket passers, hands down. The quarterback position is for throwing the football.
