I didn't think about him, but did consider him a good coach.

He's had Notre Dame consistently with 10+ win seasons. Despite the occasional "we're glad he's gone" ND posters here, I think that's a solid standard. People bitched here about Miles "only" winning 10 games a year, they bitched about Fulmer at Tennessee, Solich at Nebraska, etc. You look at Tennessee and Nebraska now, you come to understand how easy it is to drop off the map.

Notre Dame played a D1 schedule, they alway had a couple Big 10 and Pac 12 teams, and have added a ton of ACC games. You can mock them as not-elite, but they could just as easily have started disappearing. Florida State and Miami were also fixtures in the Top 10, until they weren't.

I never considered Kelly as a replacement at LSU, the same way I didn't think of Dabo, Riley, the Ohio State coach, etc. These guys are/were already at a place where they could win, no reason to move. And with Kelly being an older guy, I really didn't expect him to move. Jimbo leaving Fla State was big, but he was in trouble there. Kelly was solid at ND.

I think it's a great hire.

Notre Dame was and is just a program I specifically ignore. So I didn’t have much of an impression of him at all. I knew he had a great resume and never really held it against him that they folded in the playoffs because of the talent disparity. I always thought he was at a competitive disadvantage and I just don’t watch ND games very much. I e rooted against them my entire life- since they were the bullies .

Same here, which is why I think I like him so much. Kind of tired of the clown coach carousel. Just get down to business without the charade.

Regarded higher than I did Nick Saban as coach at Michigan State.

Same here my hate for ND made me hate everything associated with the school, I kinda like the Bus & Tim B, but hate Golic and Quinn, I remember being happy he was dropping down the draft (immature). So I wasn’t over excited to get him, he is the epitome of Yankee (chill out my mom from Boston) . He has some adjusting & adapting to do as far as recruiting and culture , but as far as process, strategic, and organization he’s definitely got those Coaching wise.

The landscape is always evolving, but he is a top 10 coach, easily. Arguably top 5. He’s successful everywhere he has been.

He also has a 2-0 record against LSU even though those games “didn’t count” or “LSU was cheated.” He took a less talented team and coached circles around that idiot Miles, and that’s what matters.
