I agree its a strange sense of confidence, but Gausman will keep us in games against teams that are on another level than us.

Someone please tell me how it could happen.... I just don't see it

I don't either. We seem content to throw away the third game at home when we have a chance to sweep, and can't win on the road to save our lives. If you're going to lose 80% of your road games (LSU 6-24 last 30 SEC road games), you'd better be sweeping the home series instead of being satisfied with two of three.

Best case scenario: we get to 16-14 in SEC, seeded around 5-7th in SEC tournament, make a deep run and squeak in as a regional host.

Worst case scenario: we lose a bunch more 1-run games..a la last year and slip to 13-17 in SEC.

Most likely scenario: We finish something like 15-15 in SEC play and are on the NCAA bubble AGAIN.

Yes, the days of LSU's being a consistent power in baseball appear to be over. Great timing on investing all that money in a new stadium for a mediocre team that won't fill it 20% of the time.

Pessimistically I see us going 15-15 based on what we've done and the schedule ahead. Optimistically I get 18-12, realistically I get 16-14 or 17-13

I'd like to see your series-by-series breakdown of your realistic approach. I cannot realistically see us finishing 17-13. That would be an extremely optimistic outlook.

2 of 3 from Arky
1 of 3 from Florida
3 of 3 from Bama
1 of 3 from Kentucky
2 of 3 from Georgia
2 of 3 from Ole Miss
2 of 3 from Vandy
1 of 3 from South Carolina

You only have to take 1 of 3 series, either the S.C., Ole Miss, or Kentucky series, and we are at 17-13.

Bottom line is that we needed 2 of 3 this weekend...actually we needed a sweep...because this gauntlet of a schedule is gonna make things extremely difficult.

I've said it from the beginning...we need to win as many games in the first 6 as we possibly can, because it's gonna get extremely tough with Arkansas and Florida back to back. Well, we went 3 and 3 so I'm projecting 16-14/17-13 ONLY because I think eventually we will get hot...somewhere around Georgia/Ole Miss/Vandy.

Winning 2 of 3 against Ark, UGA, Vandy, and at Ole Miss is quite optimistic if I say so myself. I don't know how we can do all that after just losing a series to mediocre Auburn team IMO.

We are usually pretty good at home. 3 of those 4 series are at home, Georgia isn't that good, neither is Vandy, actually, Vandy appears to be terrible.

Seems optimistic but doable... SC is 1-5 in sec play, vandy is 2-4 and 9-15 overall.

uga is 3-3,ole miss is 3-3,bama is 1-4

Kentucky,Fla and Arky are going to be tough getting one 1 win from each would be nice.

I know Vandy has struggled far more than anyone would have expected, but that team has to have enough talent to compete weekly in the SEC.

I'm calling UGA a sleeper in the SEC this year. They've got a veteran lineup with a stud ace on the mound on Friday nights in Alex Wood. Their pitching overall is significantly better than ours.

I'm more worried about UGA at home than Ole Miss away, even with all our struggles on the road in recent memory.

Thats why I put Ole Miss as a win, I don't think they are that good. It really all comes down to this series against Arkansas. They are good, but a series win will give us confidence and a winning record in SEC play going into Florida, after Florida, every series is winnable.

Therefore, the best we can hope for is to squeak into the NCAA tourney as a road #2 seed.

How are we going to do that when we don't show up for the third game when we're up 2-0 in a series?

Nuts, will you start the posts about how Mainieri is in over his head and can't recruit soon like you did for Johnson? I'm getting anxious

We need at least 2 sweeps in SEC play to get above .500 IMO.

We can sweep Alabama, and to be honest, I'm not sure where the other one is going to come from.
