I don't think many would argue with you on that one.

from what i read last season miles was looking for replacement for bo but could'nt get one ,muschamp was suppose to have been one of the guys he spoke to but didn't want to come ,holding out fot the texas hc job,so he had to go with what he had in place at the time.

i disagree. probably not practical to fire them mid year but they defiantly deserved it. they fricking slaughtered our d in less than a year.

this just piles on too what we already knew though. les fricked up big time by hiring buddies instead of real coaches

this but since he won a title he was allowed to do as he pleased. LSU put no effort into the dc search

but it's been said before on here that Les was going for continuity on defense after Pelini left.

not to mention, who was out there to hire. i honestly don't know. maybe the right man was not out there so he was just trying to keep the same system. it failed, but still may have been better than the alternative.

i highly doubt an alternative was worse. Did you see how shitty our d was last year?

at least the year is over

yes, it was a bad year. neither side of the ball looked "comfortable" until we played Ga. Tech. although i will say our D looked pretty good against Bama. since neither team was a passing team or a spread passsing team, i'm gonna say our passing D was the problem. i'm pretty sure this team will be much improved and we will compete for the SEC; might win it, might not, but WE WILL COMPETE.

confirms many beliefs about dumb and dumber, who just so happened to be in charge of the LSU defense.

The HEAD COACH is in charge of offense, defense and special teams. If Mallory and Peveto are "Dumb and Dumber", then Miles must be the "Dumbest" because he allowed that defensive fiasco to continue ALL SEASON. He should have stepped in early and put an end to it. Should have said enough is enough and just junked the entire defense right then and put in a basic high school defense that was easy to play. Couldn't have been any worse.........

Not fired, but if I were LM, I would have had a closed door meeting with them and said point out that we're going to change the fricking defense right now to something a lot easier to play without all the fricking mass substitution BS......

I believe our defense was rated 56th in the nation in 2008. Which was plenty good enough in the Big XII. Unfortunately, not nearly good enough for the SEC.

I'm sure Les 'encouraged' the co-cords to do a better job. They just weren't capable enough to excel in the SEC. This isn't a league for on-the-job training.

Bottom line is, and I'm sure CLM has learned this by now, you hire the best to beat the best.

Mallveto did a God awful job. Our defense looked confused and sloppy, and it never lived up to the talent. So don’t try and say I think it was a good hire because it wasn’t.

That said, I’m quite pleased with how Miles handled the situation. He showed loyalty to his assistants and tried to promoted from within. He’s trying to build a monster and was thinking he could promote guys who were part of building this team instead of brining in some mercenary. This, obviously, didn’t work, but the theory behind the hire was completely sound.

But once the hire failed, Miles handled it about as well as it could possibly be handled. He got rid of both of them, but also set them up with other jobs in a face-saving gesture. It showed that Miles is a good boss. Head coaches have a horrible tendency to throw assistants under the bus to save their own skins, Miles got rid of the problem but in such a way that both guys will be able to say they weren’t fired with a straight face.

It’s not the original mistake that kills you, it’s being married to that mistake and being too stubborn to change. Dinardo’s error wasn’t hiring Tepper, it was keeping him too long. Miles got rid of Mallveto, but without publicly humiliating them. He knows how to run the business side. Who wouldn’t want to work for that guy?

Kinda confirms what an acquaintance of mine said about Peveto.

A friend of his who was a high school coach and had worked a camp or two with Peveto said "I wouldn't hire him on my staff".

My bro-in-law when I told him this kept asking "then why is he on our staff".

All I could say was, "I guess he's a good rectuiter."

My issue was never so much with the "Co-coordinator" designation so much as I think we promoted two guys who weren't ready for the responsibility at this level.

Makes feel glad last year is over, changes have been made. We MUST return to the defense that LSU has been known for in the past. We cannot give up the points like we did last year. Give us back our "Chinese Bandits".
