How do we feel about Divinity starting?

Dude is going to be an all time great line backer at LSU before his time is done. I knew he would break the lineup before seasons end, but a true freshman starting game one in a new defense? Linebacker is a leadership role, not so much at OLB as MLB, but he will be by himself a lot in open field. Will we see a lot of growing pains? And will these pains affect us when we play smash mouth teams like Arkansas and Alabama? I mean hell even Wisconsin.

ETA: I trust in aranda and look forward to seeing divinity grow. Just food for thought

If Aranda and Miles think he's good enough, I trust them.

I figured he would see significant playing time this season anyway. It's a good thing IMO.

I think the defense, in regards to every position, will improve as the year goes on. I'm that confident in Aranda.

FWIW, I don't think they would be starting him if the coaching staff had the same concerns as you.

I thought we would see more white than divinity honestly. I was shocked when I saw the depth chart

Coaches clearly think he is a better fit at OLB than Tashawn Bower or Donnie Alexander, the 2 guys that depending on what the coaches wanted, seemed like the logical choices going into the season to play opposite Key.

Seeing as though I thought those were 2 pretty solid options, and Divinity is apparently better than either of them, I'd have to say I feel pretty good.

Does Devin White back up someone specifically?

Divinity seems to have all the qualities that the coaches want for that position...smarts, physicality, and coverage when needed...

It's probably going to be our weakest spot on the Defense, at least to start out. But if the coaches think he's best option then I think that speaks more to his ability than it does anything else. He'll be ok.
Plus, I'd look for us to be in nickle half the time, which means that position wont be on the field.

Cautiously optimistic. Everybody knew LSU was thin at LB this year. He may in fact be all-world, but it's not as if he came in and won the job without circumstantial help.

If Thompson were healthy, would it be Divinity?
If Leo Louis had committed last year, would it be Divinity?
IF Clifton Garrett had stayed, would it be Divinity?
and on and on...

Basically, show me something, Mr. Divinity.

If White and Divinity end up playing well this season, it will be a big thing for recruiting linebackers going forward.

If you really think about it a New Defense would actually level the playing field towards a younger linebacker.

I think he will be great, but also consider that if he wasn't starting it might be Thornton or Martin.
-Washington is out
-Thompson is out
-Bower has been slowed by a knee injury (similar to Teuhema not starting IMO)
^ I believe all would have seen the field first if 100% healthy, not saying they have the upside divinity has.

Alexander and Riley are inside LBs in Aranda's scheme all the way.

We are simply currently in a position where we needed a freshman LB to step up, I'm glad we have a great one in divinity to do so

Agree with most of your post but how does Garrett (ILB) leaving affect Divinity playing (OLB)?
