Ok.. first.. Don't blast me here... I did not watch the whole game. I missed half the 2nd quarter and entire 3rd quarter. When I had to leave, it was 20-7, I believe.

Second... I have not fished through all the threads so the answer to my question may be out there..

With all that said... How did LSU beat AU? Aside from "we scored more points than them." What happened for LSU to turn it around and win the game? My observation.. . doesn't sound like the offense did a ton.. sounds like the Defense starting stopping AU. Right or wrong?

Defense shut AU down after halftime.

Chark's return for a TD

Etling and the offense had some great plays at times and were serviceable enough at times to win.

Culp kicked two field goals.

Pretty good 2min type offense to finish the half.

Aranda made impressive halftime adjustments, shut Auburn down.

FG kicker showed up big time.

Huge ST play.

Really, the first half was never that bad, but significant mistakes (Chark fumble, coverage bust, missed OL assignment on 3rd and 1) dug a deep hole.

From my view our defense shut them down after not being able to stop them the first quarter and early second quarter. After that Auburn did nothing.

Our offense was no great shakes either but three huge plays turned the tide IMHO:

1)Auburn dropping the interception right before the half.
2)The diving catch by Gage right after that to make him pay.
3) The punt return for TD.

Fair enough - I had to track the first half via internet (duty calls) - and ended up listening to the second half on the radio.

Defense shut down Auburn on 3rd down - I think they converted 1 or 2 in the entire second half. We cheated with safeties to help the running game. Aranda kept applying pressure on obvious passing downs.

Chark's punt return gave LSU momentum for good, essentially. 2 late field goals (confidence in the PK on the part of the coaching staff) - the offense did just enough to manufacture the last 6 points needed to secure victory.

It was not a particularly dominant performance, but simplistic as this sounds, we just won the second half more than Auburn won the first half - that's how comebacks work.

Fix busted assignments/players lining up incorrectly ... So really no "adjustments" in the sense of scheme.

ESPN Play by Play of the game. Click on the LHS of each series for a listing of every play and its outcome.

ESPN

Special Teams had their best game of the year. Including crucial Growden punt downed by Gage on the 3 yd line late in the 4Q.....which led to go ahead FG.

Defense

Kept plugging away on offense:
- AU mistakes led to a couple big plays, Canada was attacking those (kudos to him)
- couple of good drives kept us in it, and D rested at the most critical points.

Chark punt return, great job by him... even greater job blocking. Blocking was as good as one can expect, he ran it like a sweep and barely even got touched. We had momentum and confidence that we were winning that sucker after that. Sidelines knew it, just had to go do it.

I read that Aranda's adjustments were to put a safety in the box, blitz more, and have the corners cover man-to-man. The corners did a great job.

Auburn got more conservative on offense with that lead and Coupled with arandas adjustments it pretty much took away their ability to move the ball.

Our offense made just enough plays and our special teams helped considerably with the punt return and the down punt.

All that, plus, Auburn's sideline cooked in the sun into the 4th Quarter while LSU's sideline spent the second half in the shade.

Aranda said he didn't change up the defense except to put another safety in the box and play more man to man. So Aranda just explained to the players exactly what they were doing wrong and how to fix it and it worked. He's a great defensive coach no matter what the gay coach O haters claim.

LSU got a stop and a score. This brought the crowd back into it. The defense then completely shut them down in the second half and the offense continued to chip away.

Aranda was the best coach in the stadium, yes even better than Miles.

missed block in the back on Charks return, although the officiating was pretty poor both ways all day.

Miles showed up and everyone played inspired after that.

If you don't think that's a serious response, remember who the head coach was when all but one or two guys who actually play were recruited.
