As a matter of fact, I would be euphoric if he retired from coaching tomorrow, for the good of the LSU program.
But who would UAB, UL(M),Utah & Iowa beat up on??

I guess you think what Saban accomplished in 2008 is better than what Miles accomplished in 2007
Don't put words in my mouth!!! Saban did a nice job last year, But didn't win a championship. Miles did a better job in 2007. Even though LSU backed into the title game.

PJ, is that your FINAL answer? Maybe you'd like to rethink or reconsider what exactly you posted last year?

You said 8-5 was not acceptable for a coach making big money yet Saban went 7-6 last year making more money and losing to teams he had no business losing to. Period.
Perfect example of clueless fans critizing a coach for a realatively poor won/loss record.
Can anyone point out what common problem both Miles and Saban faced during those seasons?
Who among us can comprehend more than just the obvious won/loss record?

The question is will you be as forgivable with Miles as the coach as you would possibly be if Saban was the coach if we don't go undefeated every year.
That's going to extremes. I know we won't be undefeated every year and I don't think any Tiger fan really expects that.
What I do expect is for our coach to take this great talent he has accumulated and prove he can be as efficient and effective with them from week to week as they can be.... since he's billed as the great CEO I want to see him take this high-quality material and make a high-quality product out of it (not that it isn't a high quality product)
Many Miles doubters remain because the fact is that there have been several games where he took superior talent and either failed to win or won ugly. Now that Saban's materials are no longer at LSU and Miles has gotten his own guys in their completely, how good can his total product be annually in the SEC?
Well, that's yet to be seen...but in his first year where it was all his team completely (coaches, players, etc.) was last year and needless to say the outcome was not up to our standards...
This year will be very telling IMO because there will be no excuses about inexperienced QBs and coaches, etc.
We'll see.

In 2007, Saban had to field a team and weed out the cancers from the previous regime. After Bama lost to LSU, they mailed it in the rest of November. Regular Season: 6-6.
In 2008, after LSU lost to Bama, that team also mailed it in with no title games on the horizon. Regular Season: 7-5.
The issue will be how LSU bounces back from losses this year, not whether they have any kind of talent/coaching advantage. It's an attitude thing.

I'm not reading all of this, but if we win 8 games he'll be fine. If you get injury ridden there's nothing a coach can do about it.

You must have the situation Marineri faced coming to LSU confused with Saban at Bama.
Saban found a cupboard loaded with talent. The major problem Saban had his first year at Bama, he couldn't find a real OC.
Applewhite was nothing more than an inexperienced QB coach. Saban unloaded Applewhite in his second year.
Likewise, Miles couldn't find a replacement for Pelini the following season but got Chavis this year--problem solved.

With the exception of the BCS yr, Saban always coached a 3, 4, or 5 loss team. Yet some on here are still masturbating at the sound of his name.
Miles has one year were he lost more than two games, and now he's on the hot seat.

quote:I agree. Which is why I am glad as hell we don't have Saban anymore. A guy that has yet to post consecutive double digit win seasons in his entire career is not exactly what an elite program needs. He's the guy a struggling program needs to become elite, then let him move on to build some other program before he screws up what he built.
Saban is a BUILDER of a program and Miles is a keep it up kind of guy!!!!
