How confident were you in Matt Canada?

I was super excited when we hired Canada. I didn't think the offense was horrible, but there was an obvious lack of chemistry. I feel like Joe Brady is different. But I have optimism

I remember the optimism being off the charts, kind of like this season. O is great at building up expectations then throwing down a litany of excuses when they aren’t met.

People will say hesitantly optimistic. However, nearly 95% of us were ecstatic.

People were super excited because we were clearly making an effort to change the offense and get away from Miles' 3 yards and a cloud of dust. When the fans saw the first shift from the OL in the Superdome against BYU, the fans cheered.

So, yeah, there was a lot of optimism. And for good reason. We went 6-2 in the SEC and beat UF and Aggie. It was a good year. Gave Bama a much better game. Scored all of our 10 points in 3 years with Canada. Just wish he didn't butt heads with everyone he worked with, but I believe he is a good coach. If they make the 2-pt conversion in the Ohio State game, I think Canada might've been the HC at Maryland.

I remember that his offense scored points and was excited. I eventually got tired of all the motion. But I was drinking bourbon during the games as well

After seeing Canada’s offense on the field in spring practice, Orgeron likes his choice even better. “His offense is kicking our defense’s tail this spring,” Orgeron said. “It’s causing problems.”

I like the rest was super excited. The Troy loss SUCKED. But we moved the ball better against the Gumps. Call it a wash.

We knew through reports that he had a tendency to be a bit of a dick. I assumed if he was hired DESPITE that, he must be a wizard.

I liked all of the motion he brought us. As the season went on, though, it was obvious he and O weren't clicking. The writing was on the wall.

It didn't work out well with LSU but he's definitely a head coach and will coach in D1 for a while IMO

I was optimistic and willing to give it a few years to develop. It really seemed like Canada had a plan. I think he made Etling look a lot better than he was.

The crap that happened between him and Orgeron and then the hiring of the TE coach as the replacement was discouraging.

I don’t recall hearing that before we hired him. I do remember it being pushed HARD after the fact and that narrative is still pushed hard to date.

I know it’s not Os fault but I’m still skeptical. I know they’re running spread sets but I’m worried Steve will do what he’s always been doing and go conservative when things get tough.

Steve is still the OC

The way it was explained to me was- joe designs the plays, Steve calls them.

You can be conservative in the spread as well. I say pedal to the fricking metal. Let’s see if anyone can out-athlete us

You were not alone. The BYU game turned out to be false hope as the SEC defenses began to ignore all the OL movement & just play. Some things never change as he has had trouble getting along with the staff wherever he has been.
At least O stepped up & corrected a bad hire quickly & moved on.

Matt Canada offense
Pre-snap motions to nowhere.... good defenses stayed at home during motions and attacked the ball after the snap.

Maybe there was something to that narrative considering Canada doesn’t have a job right now.

What I still find interesting is that Saban talked smack about the offense being eye candy, yet the tigers still out gained them and made their defense look pretty mortal, sparking the “We Comin.” I believe two long passes, one dropped and one under thrown, if completed would have made the game a bit more competitive.
