re: How can Russell Shepard watch Nebraska?

They told him he would get a shot at QB full knowing that he was an ATHLETE (ie guy that played QB in HS but won't in college).
He (by his own admission) got a shot at QB and everyone agreed (including RS) that he didn't have the passing ability to play QB at this level.

I love these guys who come on here and say look what he did in high school or he was dominant in HS why are our coaches so bad at developing talent. Damnit man it's High School. I'm 5 foot nothing weigh a buck 160 soaking wet and started at strong safety, how would that translate to any college much less a SEC power. Just look at Al Woods who played at Elton, everyone thought he would be the next great one. The truth is he never played against anyone who was even close to his size in High School. It doesn't alwasy translate to college, Miles said he would give him the chance he did it didn't work out. He did not lie to him.

bullshite. He's a team player, and he just accepted that he had Bo Schembechler as his coach and that they would rather limp along with bad pocket passers than have the next Pat White running the show.

Russell Shepard is NOT Taylor Martinez or Denard Robinson. His time in the 40 might be similar but these guys have cutting abilities and just appear to me to be harder to contain than Sheppard. I have not seen that break-it-to-the-house-on-any-play threat with Sheppard ...yet.
You didn't see Shepard tape from high school.

save all the Les Miles tried him at QB at practice and it didnt work. PRACTICE! We talkin bout PRACTICE?!
So, even though he sucks at qb at practice, you still want him, to play there in a game ? Yea, thats the way to win games.

Crowton and Miles are two of the more brain dead people i have ever seen.
They just don't mix, like oil and water, but not Evian and Royal Purple, more like stagnant rain water in the ditch and that cheapie emergency oil you can get at 7-11. Just two different philosophies of offensive football.
Replace them with a HC/OC combo that are on the same page, keep the rest of the staff intact and you may be on to something. Don't know how the hell Miles-Crowton and the rest of that staff from 2007 (Miles-Crowton-Stud-McCarthy-Lane-Peveto-Mallory) ever managed to win the NC. It's one of the great mystery's of life. The QB had a lot to do with it, but my god, look at that staff and you just wonder.

This is kind of like the problem Ole Miss had with McCluster. We could slam it up the middle with Ridley then bring in Shep as a change of pace. Its not like the other running backs get much playing time.

He doesn't have the strenght these guys have, but he definetly has the speed and cutting ability. I saw hem plenty on TV living here in Katy when he was in High School. He is being under utilized so far at LSU no doubt, but what skill player we have besides Ridley isn't. The offensive scheme sucks, look at how long our plays take to develope, all this is Crowton's bull shite scheme he doesn't know how to adapt for players, which is what Nebraska has done for Martinez. Simplify the pass routes get the line coming off the ball together and quickly and maybe we can improve form 91st frick.

You DO know Malzahn runs his HS offense in the SEC right?
Has he put up any points on a good team? They were blowing people out last year til they got to the SEC schedule. That's one of the reasons I am not sold on them this year, but we will see.

Nutt ran something similar at Ark and scored bunches vs LSU in 05&06
This is true but I think that offense was pretty new and teams are more geared to stopping that now. That's o e reason bama is having success.

Florida? Everyone said Urbans gimmick offense wouldn't work at UF like it did at Utah because the SEC was too fast.
I was one of those, but lets see what happens without tebow.

He's not an NFL QB. He's an NFL receiver. So the best thing for Russell is to play receiver. If he was a little bigger and had an arm, yeah, but as it is, he's doing what's best for him and I can't say as I blame him. And Les is right to let him do that but I, like you, would LOVE to see him at QB these days. We need somebody in there for sure.

He wants to get to the NFL and he KNEW the ONLY way to do that was at WR. HE DIDN'T WANT TO PLAY QB ! What don't you understand about that. It was HIS choice. Move on, that boat has sailed. You sound like the idiots that still talk about Nick coming back !
He KNEW the ONLY way to get to the NFL was as a receiver? SOOOOOOOO...the one reason he chose LSU over Texas, from his own mouth, was because he would get a chance at QB. Texas wanted him strictly as a receiver, but he wanted to play QB, thus he chose LSU. Now you're saying he DIDN'T WANT TO PLAY QB! Come the frick on...

Miles says JJ looks great in practice. His play is fricking TERRIBLE in the games.
Maybe, maybe...Miles is so stupid he doesn't recognize what good play actually looks like.

quote:We question whether or not every 5* athelete we get (other than PP) is overrated year after year after year. At some point, you have to question the coaching of these players. Let's revisit who never lived up to their 4*and 5* potential:
The other question is, is RS overrated?
-Chad Jones
-Terrence Tolliver
-Russell Shepard
-Brandon LaFell
-Keiland Williams
-Al Woods
-Jai Euguene
I'm sure there are many, many more. At some point you have to start connecting the dots.
